Mayweather vs. Ortiz: KO Controversy, post fight controversy

The controversial KO

Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr. remained unbeaten Saturday, knocking out Victor Ortiz in a fight that will be remembered for its controversial ending.

In the fourth round of the fight, Ortiz landed a flurry of punches on Mayweather and head-butted him.

Referee Joe Cortez deducted a point from Ortiz for what he deemed an intentional headbutt.

But as Ortiz appeared to be apologizing, he tried to hug Mayweather, lowering his guard.

Mayweather responded with a left followed by a quick right that sent Ortiz to the canvas.

Ortiz could not answer the referee's 10-count, and Mayweather became the new World Boxing Council welterweight champion in Las Vegas.

Ortiz said he was blindsided by Mayweather and his knockout came as part of a miscommunication with the referee.

"There's two ways to look at it, but as far as I was concerned, I came here to entertain the fans, and I think they were entertained," he said. "There was a miscommunication with the referee, but nobody is perfect and this was a learning experience."

The Controversial post fight interview

In the post-fight interview, Mayweather told HBO boxing analyst Larry Merchant that, "in the ring, you have to protect yourself at all times."

When Merchant tried to press the boxer about the controversial ending, Mayweather berated him, telling him that "you never give me a fair shake." Mayweather also told Merchant, "You don't know s---- about boxing."

Merchant replied, "I wish I was 50 years younger and I'd kick your ass."

Easy my friend.... 1)  Boxing is still the world's number 1 most popular combat sport.  Wlad / Haye did the biggest numbers of the year worldwide.  Not only that Vitali vs. Amadek a fight based in Germany did bigger numbers than UFC and that was freaking Amadek, a blown up cruiser weight.   Saying UFC / MMA is bigger than Boxing is just as a dumb statement as NFL football is bigger than Soccer just because Superbowl is most watched in america and don't understand how big Soccer is over in Europe.  2)  UFC is ABSOLUTELY taking the same business model.  Lets see, Pac/Floyd is not happening due to politics.   Because last time I checked, Dana could get Fedor even when pride and affliction died due to politics.  Also, Dana LOVES the wwe antics to promote his next fight.  What do you think TUF is ?  In fact the whole TUF model and fake fueds that Dana creates only makes it's business model wayyyy worse than Boxing.  Oritz did not take a dive.  He knew he couldnt beat Floyd and really didn't mind going home early for the biggest pay check of his career.  The guy is famous for quitting and his heart is not in the fights as much as it could.   The whole ranking system, the contender stuff, the titles mean everything, not caring about the entire card and only promoting the main event just like boxing - Dana loved Boxing and copied the format as Boxing which I disagree, but money talks I suppose.  Boxing model works in America for Dana while the Pride model works in Japan only, I suppose.

It's hard to take the Floyd haters seriously since they would be ecstatic if Ortiz had got the KO in the exact same manner.
