Because UFC has the biggest brand recognition in MMA and the biggest stars, so they would have a large talent pool to showcase and maybe bring in some MMA fans for a ratings bump.

Why is it weird? The character is supposed to fighting in a Hawaii-based MMA show. The UFC has never been to Hawaii. T Jay Thompson on the other hand, has been running shows in Hawaii for ages under the Superbrawl/Icon/Kingdom/ProElite brands. Seems like a natural choice to me.

ya, I can't help but wonder... Is it wrong for me to want the Iceman to keep throwing hands until he feels like his body wont let him? I can't help but thinking that his brain has already made that decision on his behalf. My 2cents... for what its worth :P..As science moves forward and the results of the long term athletics related concussions are made public (and accepted).. more fighters will fight for the right to cash in and get out, cant say I blame them. There will always be gladiators out there willing to fight until the bitter end but I have a feeling the number of combat sports athletes holding on in their twilight years will diminish in the years to come. Maybe even in some near future we may even see some neoprene type of helmet to reduce brain related injuries and micro concussions. No I'm not kidding :P, but we'll see. One of the major factors driving this will be determined by how fast the public jumps on the MMA wagon to push it mainstream. Edit: literacy is hard :(
