Jose Aldo defends title, defeats Florian by decision

by Maggie Hendricks | source:

Jose Aldo defended his featherweight championship with a decision over Kenny Florian at UFC 136 in Houston on Saturday. Aldo won the fight 49-46 on all three judges' cards.

Aldo also able to tag Florian in the first minutes of the bout, so Florian turned to takedowns. Aldo held off Florian's takedowns, but spent much of the round clinched against the fence defensively.

A tentative Aldo started the second round not throwing many of his patented leg kicks. As the round wore on, Aldo threw more of his kicks, but it was a tentative round for both fighters until Aldo tossed Florian's takedown attempt to the side, then landed a kick as Florian stood back up.

In the third round, Aldo became more comfortable, landing more kicks. Those kicks also set up strikes that damaged Florian. Aldo took Florian down in the third minute and moved to side control, then half-guard. Though Florian defended well, Aldo was in control. Florian escaped after Aldo wasn't able to accomplish much with the takedown, and the two finished the round in the clinch.

Not the greatest fight I've ever seen. Feel bad for Kenny. I didn't want him to win either but he shouldn't be ashamed to lose title shots. Great fighter IMHO but just nit meant to wear that belt.

Agreed... They kept talking about Aldo's P4P position, top-3, arguably #1, and I don't think his status was hurt all that badly from this fight. Is he #1? No. He's still high on the list. But, Kenny's stock certainly went up.

Hahaha! Accident... Sure. At least you didn't tell him to mow your lawn faster? *shaking his head*But yeah, you're right. Rogan is the most intelligent and educated commentator in the business, by far. They don't need new commentators. Perhaps they could bring in guest commentators more often.

Florian was the only one so far that kept Aldo guessing. Kenny mixed it up very well, he showed great generalship and strategy by punching, kicking, clinching, shooting. Kenny's timing of when to clinch/shoot/strike and with what was ultra impressive imo. Am i the only guy here that appreciates this shit in this sport? Fuck i hate "mma fans."

LMAO at you fair weather you're only as good as your last fight 2 second attention deficit fans?Aldo was sick last fight and gutted it out.Tonight, he faced his toughest challenge and had to like think out there against a very strategic, diverse, taller, also very skilled challenger. It was Kenny that took Aldo out of his riddum by keeping him guessing which Aldo confirmed in his post fight when he said he didnt throws as many kicks because of the td threat.Aldo still showed the resolve and ability, like Cruz on MM, to adapt and still win. Cruz was more dominant but the skill and strategy between Aldo and Florian was off the hook tonight. Color me in the minority but i like to see skill and strategy in my MMA. IF anything slowed the fight down, on top of Kenny keeping Aldo guessing, it was Kenny;s clinching.

Wow...I didn't even notice your screen name. That was fucked up. I actually said that because someone fucked up my burrito at Chipotle tonight twice. Point remains. Stop whining and watch the fucking fights.

You'd like to be watching some other people watching people? Someone should go to your job and demand that you be fired because you didn't wrap their burrito tight enough.

umm may be he is saying that the fight was so close and could have gone either way so it's weird to have all judges agree on the same winner see what happens when you assume?
