Update: Michael Bisping vs. Demian Maia confirmed for UFC on FOX 2

source: espn.co.uk

Early this week the UFC announced two main events for the UFC on FOX 2 card scheduled for the end of January in Chicago. The UFC also implied there would be third main event caliber fight:

"UFC on Fox 2 will have three headliners, we just haven't announced the other one yet," White toldMMA Fighting, having already announced Rashad Evans v Phil Davis and Sonnen v Munoz.

He was then asked, 'Are you implying Bisping may be on that card as well?', to which White replied: "It's a possibility."

I don't understand this statement. Maia has three losses and only one of them since his standup has improved to it's current level.I still think Maia is one of the more underrated 185ers and other than Silva(and being popped by Marquart) he always looks competitive.

I'm not sure what fights everyone else has been watching to have Bisping pegged as such a technical genius on the feet. He got tagged plenty by everyone he's fought and if they had average to above average technique they dropped him. Maia has plenty enough power to put Mike on his heels and instead of trying to get the tko, Demian loves to use those openings to clinch and get the takedown. The likely senario I see would be Mike overthinking grappling so he gets tagged, buckled and gives Maia very favorable position on the ground. Bisping's got a chance in this one, but I don't think it's a very good one.

Yea, I had high hopes for Maia, but he seems like he has lost his way. Seems a bit confused adding his improved stand up, with his exceptional ground game. Bisping just looks more well rounded, and seems comfortable with his strengths as of late.

I agree to a point but I would prefer to see the Maia from the Mario fight. Light on his feet, confident in his hands and good in and out movement. He was a bit too tentative imo in the Munoz fight and against a guy like Bisping the last thing you want him to do is dictate the pace.

I think they wanted to capitalize on Bispings fame some and I'm not sure what is going on with Stann. Haven't heard a peep from him since his loss to chael. Maybe the UFC wants to bring him back slowly against someone like Belcher? I think the Stann fight would have been another acceptable choice but I feel like Maia is ranked higher than Stann and needed a fight sooner than Stann. On a sidenote I think Stann vs Belcher is an excellent fight idea!

If the Demian Maia that fought Munoz shows up for this fight Bisping is in a shit ton of trouble. If Maia trains with JDS's boxing coach again, pair that with his ground game....I don't see Bisping coming out of this with his hand raised even if it goes to decision

Can't wait for this, three main events.

The only way Bisping can take this is by decision. He lacks knockout power, and I don't think Maia has ever been t.k.o.ed (although he was k.o.ed by Nate Marquadt).I was not too impressed with Bisping's striking in his last fight. He seemed sluggish, and Mayhem's left jabs were hitting him in the first round. So, I wouldn't be too surprised if Maia won the standup fight, and we know that, on the ground, Bisping stands no chance.
