Fedor Emelianenko will make his return to the Land of the Rising Sun on New Year’s Eve.

Sherdog.com confirmed with a source close to the event Monday that “The Last Emperor” will lock horns with Olympic judo gold medalist Satoshi Ishii at Dream “Genki Desu Ka! New Year! 2011.” The bout had been teased previously by a number of sources, but it remained unconfirmed until today.

Going down Dec. 31 from the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan, the event will also feature the semifinal and final rounds of Dream’s ongoing bantamweight world grand prix. Four men currently remain in the tournament draw, which features Antonio Banuelos, Masakazu Imanari, Bibiano Fernandes and Rodolfo Marques.

He's also shown himself to be a very green and to this point mediocre MMA fighter. Fedor is going to beat him up.

90% of this thread underestimating Satoshi Ishii clearly has no idea who he is. He's been winning gold metals in judo since he was 18 years old. I'll be sure to TTT this one after Fedor loses again - for the 4th time in one year.

You gave a fuck enough to click the thread and post. I'm sure you'll watch the fight and comment a couple more times before all is said and done. So apparently, some fucks were given.

Of course Ishii should be the dog here, but Fedor has been inconsistent, so anything can happen

lol calling an olympic gold medalist who has been in huge main events against Yoshida and JLB an "unknown".Not saying he's a great fighter yet, but not an unknown in JAPAN

Lol, this thread alone has already received more interest, with more "fucks being given," than most of your worthless Fightmatrix threads.

Btw, the last time Fedor fought in Japan on NYE, according to Monte Cox, who was working with M-1 at the time, the Japanese paid $1.5 million to have Fedor fight Choi. It's doubtful whether Fedor was able to command such a premium this time around, though, since his stock is much lower now.Plus, Japanese MMA has declined even further since the Choi fight, where it has proven to be even more insolvent and unsustainable the last few years, and Ishii is not even as popular as Choi was - who had had success in K-1 to that point, along with the special attraction of the freakish size factor. Whereas Ishii was actually jeered in his last fight in Japan, and has not proven to be a fan-favorite in his MMA transition, even despite his "Olympic hero" credentials. It's questionable how much drawing power (or platform for exposure) this fight will ultimately have, especially relative to how much it will cost Dream just to put it on.
