Florian anticipating another title run

by Garrett Derr | source: bleacherreport.com

Kenny Florian has fought for a UFC world title three times. Kenny Florian has lost those three times. But does it mean he should just pack it in and quit? Not if you ask him. Kenny Florian recently spoke with BleacherReport.com about his plans to rest, recover, and make a comeback to the UFC, with every intention of going back on a title run:

As Florian makes his transition back to the lightweight division, he still has one goal in mind: winning a UFC championship. Despite coming up short in all three title opportunities, Florian still feels he has what it takes to make another run towards UFC gold.

"I feel that I have all the skills to get it done," Florian said. "I've had different issues over the course of my career, but I'm capable of doing it. It's just going out there and getting it done. I have some injuries I'm going to let heal for the next two months. Once those things clear up, I'm looking forward to getting back on the race to the title."

However, when that title run begins is unknown as Florian is unsure of when his exact return date will be.

Florian is also unsure of whom he will face in his return to the Octagon in 2012.

"I really have no idea right now<" Florian said. "I'm hoping it would be a well-respected, top guy in the lightweight division. But, right now I don't have anyone in mind.

"I have a back injury that I'm letting heal up. As soon as that's cleared, I'll start talking to the UFC about possible opponents."

Hes probably one of the few fighters who have actually hit their ceiling! I mean hes had 3 seperate title shots against 3 seperate guys and he hasnt really come close to winning any of those fights! We can blame poor gameplans but if he couldnt stop Sherk from getting the takedowns (and even held the cage to stop it), he didnt have the wrestling to get BJ down, and hes just not anywhere near as good a fighter as Aldo in any aspect of MMA, is it really the game plans or has he hit his limit? We then can blame his training but he has trained with Sityodtong and Tristar. Sometimes guys just hit the limit in their pro careers and their isnt really much room to grow. He could try a different team and different gamplans but at this point in his career I think we have to accept him for what he is!

Here's a novel idea: Match Kenny up with young, rising fighters looking to add a name win to their resume. If the younger fighter wins, then he gets closer to a title shot. And if Kenny wins, then he moves up the ranks. Following that pattern, we determine all our contenders by who is winning against the highest level of talent.Crazy, I know. But it could work!

"I finish fights!" I haven't been interested in a Florian fight since I was excited to see BJ spank the flip out of him. It's just not that interesting. Fight Hominick as a pretend thai-guy and get spanked like that TUFr who tried to test Bang's stand up. Something like that. I am totally uninterested in Florian making a title run, along with the rest of Earth, but there are fights that will be fun to watch.Let's focus on those, Flojo.

I wanted say two things.  THIS And I agree with MainelyBJJ, you guys are insane.  A) He changed weight as it was natural for him to move down (and you know, when the division was available).  B) He's been top 10 in every division he's been in by defeating top 10 guys. C) This guy got to THE TUF (season 1) finals over 20 lbs out of his natural weight class! I'd ask for one of these TUF n00bs to show me the cans hes faught or how he's been "gifted" title shots, but they're ignorant asses will probably point to Mishima because they're stupid. Fun fan fact, it was actually KenFlo's LOSS to Drew Fickett that landed him his spot on the show.  The spot was going to go to Fickett, but when BLAF saw the show KenFlo put on (regardless of the outcome), he had to bring him in. Keep layin' down the truth, MainelyBJJ.  REAL fans of Kenny "I finish fights" Florian are paying attention.
