Welcome to the UFC: Overeem TKOs Lesnar in 1st round

source: mmafighting.com

Alistair Overeem needed less than half of one round to win his first fight in the UFC, landing hard kicks and knees to Brock Lesnar's body and winning a first-round technical knockout at UFC 141.

Overeem landed a kick to the liver that knocked Lesnar down, then swarmed on him and landed punches on the ground until referee Mario Yamasaki stepped in to stop the fight. The bout lasted only 2 minutes, 26 seconds.

Brock has never repeat NEVER shown the ability to take a solid shot. His wrestling in MMAhas always been predicated on being the biggest guy every time he has faced a good striker he ends up turtling. I appreciate the Things he did for MMA as far as attention and revenue.  But his retirement is the right move.

I am so happy for Overeem, love his personality, watching him fight, his entrance music (Sensation white 2004 anthem). It will be a great day in MMA when he is holding that UFC belt.

so glad Overeem won, and smart move by Brock to retire now before his record gets even worse.

as a fan, that's how i call it. i wanted a better fight, some show of heart (other than the arguable notion that he even stepped into that octagon knowing he was about to quit) and all we got was him looking scared as hell, not engaging well, and just about tapping due to strikes. he's all full of piss and vigor when he's subduing a much weaker opponent, and then all mr. humble when his ass is handed to him by a much more skilled fighter who actually matches his strength and size (his only advantage anyway?)i was looking for Mayhem and Mir on the sideline, because it felt like an episode of Bully Beat Down. And yes, that's my idea of a pussy.

That's not only completely disrespectful and insulting, it's also b.s. Brock came off a 14-month layoff from a life-threatening illness to fight a 260-pound K1 kickboxing champion and MMA veteran. If that's your idea of a pussy ...

In fairness, he didn't come into MMA wanting everyone to hate him.  Quite the contrary, judging by his early reaction to the crowds booing him.  It's only once he realized that he wasn't going to win the crowd over in a million years that he decided embrace his role as a bad guy. The initial anti-Lesnar sentiment that was so widespread among MMA fans had nothing to do with his attitude and everything to do with the fact that he was a high-profile professional wrestler.  MMA fans (or more precisely, a specific breed of MMA fans) are insecure about two things: boxing and pro wrestling.  They will look for any little sign of MMA's superiority over boxing they can find, and they are really desperate to make sure that the world knows that MMA is not pro-wrestling.  Anything that draws a parallel between pro-wrestling and MMA is the enemy. Mind you, it's not like Lesnar is exactly Mr. Personality, so I doubt he would have been the most beloved man in the sport even if he hadn't come from WWE.

Brock made the HW division a lot more exciting. 4 good years. I agree with Overeem that he still has some fight left in him, but he's accomplished enough.

it comes down to Brock looks like a scared little kid when he's not the biggest dude in the octagon. he fought like a pussy and lost like a pussy, makes sense to just call it quits like a pussy too.later Block.
