Silva disqualified in bout with Prater for illegal strikes

source: mmamania.com

His first time out, at the same arena, Silva knocked his opponent out in just 40 seconds. This time it took him even less time to earn a stoppage.

Not so fast, though.

As it turned out, Silva landed a swarm of blows that referee Mario Yamasaki deemed illegal, saying they were landing on the back of the head. Because of that, Silva was disqualified and the win was awarded to Prater.

I was under the impression that the ref comes into the fighter's dressing rooms pre-fight and tells them what he considers back of the head (i.e. mohawk, crown and back, fist sized only back of the head, etc) and that's the rule for the fight.  Again, I'm only going off what I've heard on teh UG, so who knows.

I thought the rule was if you are hitting the ear some, you are ok, if you are hitting entirely behind the ear (not hitting the ear at all with your fist) you are hitting the back of the head

Long story short, needs to be MUCH more specific rules as to what exactly "the back of the head" is. I've heard it's different for every ref, that's incredibly difficult for fighters.  Needs to be uniformed.  (unless I'm talking out of my ass, and it actually is, in which case, awesome)

I know hindsight is 20/20 and everything, but it's really Mario's fault if he had a horrible vantage point as to what was going on for that length of a time. He does have legs afterall.

The only reason you guys are giving Yamasaki shit is because he is a man.
