Belfort submits Johnson in 1st round

by Maggie Hendricks | source:

Fighting in front of his hometown crowd, Vitor Belfort submitted Anthony Johnson in the first round at UFC 142 in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday.

Johnson wanted to use his wrestling skills caught a kick for a takedown early in the first round. Belfort looked for submissions from his back, but couldn't find any, and they were stood up by referee Dan Miragliotta. Belfort landed a knee and stuffed Johnson's takedowns, while Johnson was still able to land several big strikes.

As the crowd chanted, "Ole Ole Ole! Vitor, Vitor!" Belfort took Johnson's back and cinched it with a body triangle. Belfort methodically worked his arms under Johnson's chin, and secured the rear naked choke for the submission at 4:49 in the first round.

No but its kinda unfair that some1 like fitch can get away with it for a full round while AJ gets stood up after 10 seconds same thing with the Erick Silva fight Erick had like maybe 2 back of the head shots while Belfort in his fights with Akiyama and Franklin had WAY WAY more back of the head shots and Erick Silva gets DQed  fair ? and i wasnt refering to him thanking jesus but in almost all of his interviews he starts talking like a priest :)

Don't think there is anybody Chael would refuse to fight. He said he'd fight Lesnar, and you should believe him. Nobody else has the spine to get right in Anderson's face like that he did.

Vitor spanked that ass, and Johnson looked slow and sloppy, got what he deserved.

So you like it when Fitch lays for 5 minutes or would you rather see Fitch get stood up after 30 seconds (1/10 of an entire round) if it's apparent he's just trying to blanket and control his opponent? Also don't care if he thanks Jesus.. I don't believe in it, but he does and he's up there not me so he can say WTF he wants.

Congratulations Dan Miragliotta for beating Anthony Johnson oh wait i mean Fitch can lay on top of a guy for 5 minutes and ref doesnt stand them but when AJ gets a takedown and he is in guard for like 15sec then Miragliotta stands them ... am i the only one who cant stand Vitor Belforts preaching? everytime he has an interview he has to preach about his god or jesus or w.e

I really wanted Vitor win, and I'm sure I'll take heat for saying this, but it was a cheap win, imo, because of the biased reffing with those bogus stand-ups. There's a good chance Vitor would've been pounded out if allowed to stay on the ground. I didn't want to see him win that way. Regardless of whether or not the ref was trying to create some kind of poetic justice, it was an empty win. If the fight wasn't going to happen the right way, it just should've been called off.
