ESPN Lorenzowned: Did you know boxers on your show made $275?

source: ufc

Earlier today ESPN released a UFC-pay-show-analysed-by-MMAFighting/">controversial piece on fighter pay. When a preview article by Josh Gross was published just prior to UFC 142, UFC President Dana White announced that the interview was in turn video taped by the UFC as a preventive measure against misleading editing.

Now the UFC has released the first video of the interview. This is not expected to be the last.

Zuffa Chairman Lorenzo Fertitta turns the tables on ESPN journalist John Barr asking Barr to confirm that ESPN will make nearly $3,000,000,000 in profit in 2012, and then explaining that boxers on ESPN's Friday night fights were making as little as $275.

LOL@ trying to penalize the brothers & DW because they are the only guys making money! The other promoters shouldn't be expected to pay more because they weren't as smart, cunning and business savvy as the Zuffa guys? Zuffa loses money left and right on their international shows but look how many we still get. No way that would happen if they paid like the promoters who went out of business. Those guys couldn't even juggle the expenses of a roster 1/3 the size of Zuffas and they also weren't holding events overseas. Excessive shows wasn't their problem, payroll was. ALL had programming deals- they weren't just arena shows. Zuffa spent their money and figured this sport out with no ones help. Everyone else had the same opportunity yet did crap, therefore Zuffa shouldn't be allowed to succeed and thrive in peace, either, right? LOL Cindy

You know what I mean. Of course you have to show your books for certain audits like workers comp etc. But I wouldn't want every jack ass that has no idea tying to understand and decipher my financials. I don't think Lorenzo ever said he would open up his books. It's no ones business but his and his partners.

ESPN is just kicking themselves for not getting in to MMA while they could. They could be making big money airing UFC fights right now. Instead, they're competing against Fox, while trying desperately to keep boxing relevant. The average UFC fighter is paid far more than the average boxer.

Oh, let's do keep comparing mma to NBA, MLB, NHL and the NFL- because, you know, it's reasonable to compare a nationally embraced sport that's on multiple national networks, where all games take a similar and predictable amount of time to complete, and where the sport is constantly being courted by major networks because of the ad revenue they can generate to one that was almost outlawed 10 years ago, and where all of the money is made in an inherently restricted market (ppv)- because, you know, that's reasonable. *rolls eyesChildren. And communists. Running loose on the webz. Good job, Comrade Kidhoffer.
