Carlos Condit: Controversy 'is what it is'

by Steven Marrocco | source:

Carlos Condit was recently interviewed by Radio about the controversial decision he won Saturday night. While countless fans felt Diaz won and the majority of professionals thought the decision was fair, nearly all agree that it was close, including Condit.

"During the fight, I felt like I won four out of the five rounds. I watched it yesterday, and it looked a little bit closer ... I probably would have given Nick two and myself three."

"I think it was a tough fight to call, a tough fight to judge, and a lot of those rounds were really close."

"When you fight a battle, you want to pick the battleground. Nick Diaz loves to back a guy up against the cage. For what I was trying to do in the fight, I wanted a little more range. I was wanting to fight in the middle of the cage. It was a constant battle of positioning in the cage."

"I was throwing with nothing but bad intentions. I was trying to put flying knees on his chin, trying to hit him with spinning back elbows. I was trying to finish the fight."

"For fans that want to see two guys standing right in front of each other and beating each other's faces in, that's what they like to see. And a lot of times I fight like that. But this time, I employed a different strategy to get the win, and people have a problem with that."

"It is what it is," he said of the controversy surrounding the fight. "Just because I employed this strategy this time doesn't mean that I'm not going to come straight forward and look for the kill next time."

Holy shit, you Diaz fans were right.. Looks like Condit was def. just throwing for points.. And the flying knee, kicks, and the spinning strikes.. who is he trying to fool with those..

Haha at you guys so butthurt that it's resorting to tough guy name calling over the internet.. I have re-watched and while there is booing at Condit there is also booing when Diaz starts his rant.. But hey, believe what you want and hope we get to see the rematch.. What are you going to do when Cruz loses to Faber? Hopefully your more calm by the time that fight rolls around..

Same here, it's like that POS Clothing commercial. The sad reality is that that makes up the vast majority of MMA fans whether your wanna accept it or not.

I can't believe this place trumped Sherdog of all places in bottom of the barrel stupidity and childishness.

Well stated my friend VTFU. Condit fought on his terms got the better of nearly every exchange and stuck to a gameplan that was obviously working. Diaz was pushing straight forward not cutting off angles when Carlos would move off to the same side every time usually ducking under a Diaz punch. Instead of working on cutting him off with footwork or a better striking plan he never adjusted. He let his corner tell him he was winning when even he wasn't sure. Diaz isn't know for his one punch power as thats not how he finishes people. He is known for his swarming offense. When a guy is known for out working everyone gets out worked whats that say for him? If some of these people choose to never pay to see Carlos Condit fight again then I am sure they will regret it when he has another amazing fight ending in a finish. You know like almost every fight he is in. 28 wins 5 loses. Of his 28 wins he has finished 26 of them. With an incredible 13 KO/TKO and 13 submissions. Thats an incredible finish rate and an extremely well rounded fighter. Any one who fails to realize this is really missing out to bad.
