Bader survives huge slam in decision win over Jackson

by Steve Cofield | source: yahoo.com

Quinton Jackson didn't come to Japan ready to fight and it costed him in what he hoped would be a triumphant return. The former PRIDE legend and UFC light heavyweight champ didn't make weight on Friday. When it came time to show his stamina and athleticism, "Rampage" just didn't have it.

Behind a solid clinch game and wrestling, Ryan Bader pulled what turned out to be a mild upset, via unanimous decision, 30-27 on all three cards.

^^i think Bader fought a good fight..he looked faster than normal and he implemented his gameplan..he fought smart and he got the win..im still not a fan of his style but oh well.. hollywood didnt tarnish Rampage, he has always had somewhat of a sluggish motivation in training..ever since he has been in the UFC he hasnt looked that great..he had maybe 1-2 good showsings and thats it, the rest have been very underwhelming...the jardine, forrest, bader fighgts come to mind...Rampage has never improved, he has strong boxing, good power and good wrestling but thats it..

I actually thought Bader was pretty beastly. He caught him good with the overhand in the first round, landed some good knees after he stuffed pages td's, kinda slammed rampage with the belly to back throw after he got slammed, had some nice powerful doublelegs, and had some nice gnp and a nice kimura attempt in the third round.good fight.

wasn't that an illegal slam by Rampage..."spiking," or whatever they call it?

I did not think the fight was to bad from Bader's perspective. He pretty much dominated with his wrestling and did some ''decent'' striking as well. Did he fight a ''safe'' fight, sure because he new he would have been in deep trouble with the UFC if he dropped this one and it would have been pretty silly to just stand in front of Rampage and bang with him.As for Rampage, apart from the slam (which i gave an A plus for effort but a B plus for execution) he looked pretty bad. He was to tentative (which partly had to do with him wanting to get the slam because he wanted to give back to the Japanese fans),did not let his hands go enough, had pretty bad conditioning (compared to what he normally has) and was pretty bad once on the ground (but that kind of always been the case).I personally think something was amiss. Rampage usually does not miss weight by that much. Yes he does not enjoy training but he always been on weight in the past (even though it might have been an ordeal). If there was an injury involved it would explain a lot. If there was not then Rampage needs to man up and get some good people in to prepare him for fights because he did not look fit at all (he should join a decent camp, like the Blackzillians, where people really work on the holes in his game and he actually spars against people who test him). I hope this will not be the last fight of Rampage. I do not want to see him quit with a lose and i personally think there is still some good fights in him (especially for us fans because he mostly entertaining, inside and outside the octagon). But he needs to acknowledge that he did need perform up to the level that he normally does and he needs to make some big changes Asap.

People are actually surprised that Rampage lost? He hasn't looked that good in years.Of course Bader isn't dumb enough to stand and trade with Rampage. He's not as one-dimensional. It's Rampage's fault that he couldn't defend the takedowns or get up from them.

Didn't see the post-fight conference so I'm not sure if anything good happened. But come on, Rampage was not in shape for that fight. For all the shit talking Rampage did about Chuck being fat and having a gut at age 38, he had man-tits at age 33. Plus the fact that he came into this fight knowing he didn't train well or make weight. Bader deserved the win for at least trying.Retire Rampage.

Rampage needs to either retire immediately or go to a real training camp. Not a boxing and weight loss day camp. These half assed paydays are tarnishing the legacy of one of the sports most exciting fighters.
