Frankie Edgar: I want my rematch

by Mike Chiappetta | source: mmafighting.com

Frankie Edgar made probably the most impassioned demand of his career in a Wednesday interview on The MMA Hour. After noting that he had given rematches to both Gray Maynard and BJ Penn, he said that he expects the same treatment after a close loss.

"I'm saying it, and I'm saying it loud: I want my rematch," he said. "I'm not going to have these antics or play these games. I'm telling you want I want. This is what I want. I think it's fair. I think the fans want to see it. It was fight of the night. Listen, even if these guys want to see me get beat up, I do get beat up in a lot of my fights, even in the fights I win, so it’s win-win for everybody."

"I think the rematch makes sense on several levels. Not only can UFC be good guys, I think I earned it. Economically, they’ve been investing money in me. I've been at the helm of this weight class for two years now. I think it just makes sense for them and obviously for me. Let’s do it."

"I’m staying at 155. This is where I’m at right now. I still feel like I got a run left. I still want that title back."

"That [rematch] is what I want. I think it’s right. I think i earned it. I’m not trying to put down Ben or any other contender, but I think I earned my spot to deserve this rematch."

if he doesn't want to fight at 145, Dana will Send his ass back down the ladder where he gets chewed up and spit out by the other top tiered 55ers who have been waiting "patiently" for the jam to unclear itself! He has about 3 fights before he meets that title shot again. Imo he gets beat by Pettis, Diaz, Miller, & Gilbert Melendez if he comes over...

No he doesn't. He lost decisively. Time to EARN a rematch. Maynard and Penn got rematches because Penn got robbed in their first fight, and the Maynard fight was a draw. What makes you think he deserves a rematch without fighting some other contenders? He lost convincingly to Henderson- it wasn't even controversial.

The first Penn fight was questionable and Penn was an established champion up until then, and the first title match with Maynard was a draw.  Edgar LOST to Bendo. It's different.

Just make him drop to 145 and fight Aldo for the title then we can watch Frankie get his shit pushed in worse than what bendo did to him.

Frankie deserves to fight Bendo any time EXCEPT in the next fight. No IMMEDIATE rematch, sorry, you were beaten.

Yes he gave one rematch to BJ but let's be honest had he not have given Maynard a rematch there would have been outcry as it was a draw and fight of the year. I feel Bendo only gains momentum from here and if there was a rematch it would only be a more dominant win for Bendo (boring I like to see the champions tested)
