Kampmann submits Alves for dramatic come back win

by Michael David Smith | source: mmafighting.com

In an incredible comeback, Martin Kampmann was getting beaten by Thiago Alves for 14 minutes on Friday night, only to finish the fight in the 15th and final minute of their UFC on FX 2 battle.

Kampmann won even though he was getting badly beaten, losing the first to rounds and appearing to be well on his way to losing the third. It was an outstanding comeback victory for Kampmann and a heartbreaking loss for Alves.

"Thiago got me with some good shots, I'll be honest," Kampmann said afterward. "He was catching me. ... I was eating too many punches."

WE all like this attitude..........but this mistake is the difference between becoming a very rich champion and NOT.... the line is so thin.... dance around for the last 30 seconds and become GSP, do what Alvez did a few time and become CUT.. this is why we dont see many "Balls out" fights now... playing it safe makes you a rich man :/

Props to Alves for continuing to try and finish the fight even though he had won on the scorecards. It's annoying when the winning fighter rides out the clock by dancing around the cage at the end of a fight. Props to both guys for a good fight and congrats Kampmann for ftw.

I agree that late takedowns are terrible, but it isn't as if Alves needed to steal the fight. He would have won 30-27 or 29-28.

I was yelling Yes. Fucking sick of these fighters trying to steal rounds with a final second takedown. Laughed my ass off when Hardy got caught by Chris Lytle.Alves is a good guy, so sucks to see him lose (especially as he truly had kapman badly hurt) but hopefully more fighters will stop with these bs round stealers now.

Alves is my favourite WW fighter, but he does some stupid stuff in that cage. He has the skills, work ethic, his weight is under control finally, he is doing great against tough opponent and then does unecesarry takedown attempt and get's submitted. Why did he go for that takedown?
