White: Despite early struggles, 'TUF: Live' positioned well on FX

That said, UFC president Dana White isn't ready to push the panic button just yet.

"Far from it," White told MMAjunkie.com. "Spirits are high around here. Everything is good."

Despite the trends, White said both he and FX executives are comfortable with the early results.

"There's so many things that are involved in those numbers," White said. "I didn't expect to jump on FX and do 3.5 million viewers right out of the gate. But here's the thing: The format is awesome. It's perfect. We've got a great season, and we're going to build this thing.

"Believe me, the way that FX deals with their programming and how they handle it, they're so analytical. These guys are like [expletive] rocket scientists how they break this stuff down and look at it. Trust me, everything is positive over there."

I'd really like to know what coaching the fighters are getting between rounds. There is only one fight per show. It wouldn't be difficult to have the only fight be uninterrupted by commercials.***Maybe that's the big money time slot for ads, but it's pretty sad you have to go out like that.

I like the new live format. I always felt the old format swayed me to pick a fighter to root for through editing, if that makes sense.

Speaking of TUF: Live, what happened to "for the first time ever, the fans pick the fights"* that they advertised when TUF: Live was first announced the move to FX (in the video above)?  Wasn't that the whole point of doing it live?  *The full promo said: "After the coaches pick their teams from the 16 winners, they will each choose which of their fighters will be eligible for the first bout and the audience will vote on who they want to see go head-to-head.  The results are announced at the beginning of the next episode.  For the first time ever, the audience will have a voice in selecting who will fight."
