Dana White: Fedor's team 'not laughing now'

source: mmajunkie.com

Fedor Emelianenko recently UFC/" target="_blank">hinted that he was coming to the UFC, saying in an interview with Sportbox.ru “I can tell you the timing of my next bout right now. It’s going to be June or July... At the moment, the strongest and most respected MMA organization is situated in America. It’s the UFC. Therefore, I have to go to the US in order to face the strongest opponents.”

In 2009 White and Fedor's management negotiated extensively for a Fedor vs. Brock Lesnar superfight, but were unable to come to terms. White, who had vowed to bring 'The Last Emperor' to the UFC, offered "a ton of money, everything that he wanted. He could go fight in sambo every f------ Thursday night if he wants to."

Talks ultimately died over the insistence of Fedor's management, M-1 Global, to co-promote the event. "I put my money where my mouth was and laid everything out and tried to make this thing happen," said White. "And they're coming up with unrealistic s---."

At today's UFC 146 kickoff press conference, White was asked if Emelianenko was on his radar.

"Not even a little bit," White replied. "That was a guy who was made an incredible offer, and they laughed at it. They aren't laughing now."

What Fedor did during his run was out fucking standing. Most people forget that PRIDE was widely considered to have the best Heavyweight division in MMA, and Fedor fucking dominated it. He didn't coast his way to decisions, he went for it and finished dudes. Times changed, and UFC suddenly had a heavyweight divsion worth talking about...and Fedor's management decided he was above fighting in the UFC. They fucked him from ever getting to test himself during his best years, and now we have a dude who just isn't what he once was. I can't blame Dana for feeling this way, but at the same time if you really hate the dude, put him in there and let your dudes beat him up. Don't cockblock him from making a living.

i thought this was about the fedor of today coming to the ufc, which by your example would be the equivalent of joe montana coming back to the nfl this year.... IUNO ABOUT THAT.. yes context is important, but this is the present, and they are talking about fedor coming in TODAY, not the fedor of old using a time machine to travel forward its a big difference

Not even close. What some of you cant understand is that the UFC does not need Fedor. Fedor needs the UFC. The UFC will continue to grow just fine without Fedor. Maybe he (Fedor)should be more careful with who he lets manage him...

Totally deserved. The show only got nominated for 2 Emmys in its run, and didn't win either. Just goes to show what a crock of shit those awards shows are.I started to re-watch it myself last week. I'm almost done with season 2.

Haha so true. Fedor thinks he's a boxer now but he has sloppy form with basic combos. He is fast tho

Dana never said he wouldn't sign Fedor. I'm sure he would but he's not going to go out of his way to make him some crazy offer. And honestly, we all know that of Fedor came to the UFC he'd fight 2 or 3 times, most likely end up with a losing record, and cut. Same story you've seen a million times.
