Stann KOs Sakara in the 1st

by Ken Pishna | source:

The first step towards that occurred when he stepped into the cage with Alessio Sakara in Sweden.

Working hard to shore up any holes in his game, Muay Thai being a primary focus of late, Stann used what he has learned to great benefit. He and Sakara briefly went toe-to-toe to start off the fight, but Stann clinched wobbled Sakara with several driving knees.

“I’ve really been working a lot to shore up my holes,” said Stann.

He did that and then some. Sakara fell onto his back from the knees, Stann immediately following up with several heavy punches. The former Marine then dropped into Sakara’s guard, blasting away until a couple short, hard left hands put Sakara’s lights out just long enough for the referee to stop the fight.

What i want to know is how Sakara is still in the UFC and how he was the co-main event of the evening.

His movement looked terrible. I have no doubt that his intention was to plant his feet and go shot for shot with Stann by what he showed. He was standing flat footed and not using his tremendous lateral movement, use of striking range and speed advantages. I thought ATT had cured him of this problem, but he did it again.

I hope they get Sakara back in there quickly, he needs to fight more often. The one fight a year shit isn't doing him favors.I thought this last layoff would have made a huge difference but I was very wrong.

Made me a fan tonite. I Didn't realize what an ambassador he actually is for mma. Tremendous humility and professionalism on display by stann tonite. I don't normally cheer for American hero types but this dude deserves every fan he gets.

Sakara needs to learn to throw combos and get out.He hasn't learned to not brawl with heavy handed opponents.
