Gustafsson: I'd take a title shot

by Mike Whitman | source:

Though the Alliance MMA representative took a well-deserved unanimous decision, Gustafsson believes he still has more work to do, both in the gym and the cage. He declined to call anyone out by name, the Swede was clear about his desire to climb the UFC’s light heavyweight ladder.

“I [executed] my game plan, but I’m a finisher. It was my first decision [in the UFC], so I’m still learning,” he said. “I want to fight the top five guys in the world in my division, but if [the UFC] were to give me a title shot, I would be more than ready if that day comes.”

Stop calling him a kid - he's half a year older than Jones. Apart from that I agree that he should take it slow. Bader, Machida, lil Nog, Shogun and Griffin would all be good experiences regardless if they make sense ranking wise. I don't think he should go for the belt until 2014. You want to keep it once you have it.

I would like to see him have a couple more fights first too, but the 205 division is running out of challengers fast so I could see them giving him a shot if he wins one more. Hopefully they can have him fight every few months like Jones has so we can get the ball rolling!

Great post,Would love to see him against Shogun for entertainment value....and if he wins i do think he has to avenge the lose against his team mate (if he wins his rebound fight) to measure if he is more capable of handling strong wrestlers now.He looked great though....Viking against Bones would be and epic fight in a year (or two).

Hendo is still waiting for his title shot. Ideally for the UFC, Jones runs through Rashad nearly unscathed and they can do Hendo/Jones soon. Thiago Silva shouldn't earn you a title shot. Gustaffson should fight Machida or Bader.

You guys, I think Jones can handle himself. Nobody is throwing him to the wolves. It is Gustaffson's destiny to have the belt. We can't protect Jones forever.

he is still a long way from being able to fight top 5. machida, jones, rahsad, and shogun would tool the guy who just fought thiago silva.
