'Shogun' Rua vs. Brandon Vera to headline UFC on FOX 4

The UFC on FOX summer card lost its main event today with the news that headliner Brian Stann, who was set to face Hector Lombard, had been injured and forced to withdraw from the event.

The new main event on August 4 will be a five-round light heavyweight battle between two of the best Muay Thai strikers in the game, Brandon Vera and former champion Shogun Rua. Rua is riding the momentum of the fight of the century against Dan Henderson, while Vera is back in the win column and looking to make a statement after being sidelined earlier this year due to injury himself.

Rua is being plucked from the UFC 149 card in Calgary, where he was set to face Thiago Silva until Silva suffered an injury. Vera, meanwhile, was training for a bout with James Te Huna at the July FUEL TV event. A new opponent for Te Huna is expected to be named shortly.

"No one is more disappointed than I," said Stann via Twitter. "Meant the world to headline a UFC.

Vera has skills and I wouldn't count him our of Shougun fight. Vera's problem is his own confidence. He also doesn't have the fighter's heart but if he can get over that, which is a big mountain to climb, he has a good chance of beating many well known fighters.

In my mind this fight has 2 possible outcomes. 1. Shogun comes in in pretty good shape and runs through him in the 1st round. 2. Shogun comes in spilling out of his tight shorts, gasses early and the fight looks like Shogun-Coleman II. Shogun is coming off another long layoff (he should be used to that by now) so I have no idea what to expect. Shogun v Rampage II or Shogun v Davis are the only 2 fights that really made sense for Shogun to begin with. I feel like the UFC is trying to match him up with a striker so he can buzzsaw them and be right back in title contention.

Lorenzo is so fucking clueless.............. What? He thinks a total mismatch where Shogun is going to whip Vera's ass is what the people want to see? Didn't he just do this with JDS/Mir and NO ONE GAVE A SHIT????
