Shinya Aoki and Bibiano Fernandes sign with Asia's ONE FC

In early June it was reported that Brazilian Bantamweight Bibiano Fernandes, who fought for DREAM before the event's demise, had signed with the UFC. Weeks later a number of MMA news sites reported that Fernandes suffered an undisclosed injury and would not make his promotional debut July 21 in Calgary, Alberta, at UFC 149 against Roland Delorme, as previously announced.

Then Fernandes posted on his Facebook page that he never signed with the UFC, and was weighing offers from both the UFC and Asia's ONE FC.

Now ONE FC has announced that Fernades has officially signed.

DREAM Champion Bibiano Fernandes has officially signed with ONE FC. He will debut on August 31 in Manila.

Shinya Aoki is signing with ONE FC either today or tomorrow, and will headline the event in Manila later this summer.  In the weeks leading up to the signing there had been some question as to whether Aoki would make a dash for the USA or remain in Asia.  That question was answered today.

Making his name  during the final days of Pride, Aoki's submissions were something MMA fans only would dream of.  After the organization went belly up, DREAM formed and made it a point to build The Tobikan Judan as the promotion's star fighter.  Aoki went on to defend his DREAM title four times, and win many non-title fights in between.

Aoki made the biggest challenge of his career when he fought Gil Melendez in Strikeforce, coming up short to the #2 lightweight in the world.

Looks like more and more top fighters are deciding to show the middle finger to dana"s cheap ass....its laughable that anyOther mma organization can offer moreMoney to a top 10 fighter then the ufc..this is why competetion between promotions is good...its good for fighters pay, its good for fans to have a choice in what to watch....and its good when dana doesnt have the power to put on shitty cards on ppv and then tell us, the fans, that we can fuck off if we dont wanna order it...he"s only able to do that because they prettyMuch monopolized the whole mma scene...its the same reason he can offer top 10 fighters stupid low pay, and then say "oh i guess the guy didnt wanna test himself vs the best"...

As soon as he loses he can go back to being dogshit. The only way it makes sense is because its a mystery how he'd do in the ufc. The mystique only stays if he keeps winning. He can say no all he wants, and go after the money, but one screw up and its all for nothing.

You guys have no clue. Its about making money as a profesional. FIghters will go WHERE THE MONEY IS AT!! IF they were low ballin him.. why would he sign with a top ORG? If another ORG is willing to pay what he wants .. then its obvious.Fighters dont fight for the fans or where always the top competitors is at.

Sucks but what can you do. The man has to provide for his family, he is getter more money to fight easier competition.Sucks that we wont get to see him fight the top BW but to the UFC he is another guy, to OneFC he is a top guy for them.Maybe he wins some OneFC fights, raises his stock more and then comes back to the table to negotiate with the UFC.I will say I'd much rather him in Bellator than OneFC.

Good on Bibiano. You can tell he really wanted that UFC deal, having just become a father u can't blame him for taking the financially more attractive offer. Hopefully there is a lot more to come from ONE FC.

In response to the news, MMA Asian-o-philes have immediately ranked him at no. 1 at bantamweight.

Bibiano Fernandes just put himself into the same boat a Gilbert Melendez. I'm not gonna blame a 32 year old fighter for thinking short term/max cash, but I'll have zero sympathy for him if he doesn't get paid(see Affliction's history if you think the big money offers are all good). He can no longer say he wants to face the best in the world (almost 90% of the "ranked" bantamweights are signed to UFC, and Bellator). He knows that the UFC does not co-promote, so don't go calling out Cruz, Faber, and the Barao's of the world. He had that chance, and chose to sign with OneFC.I will watch his fights, but he made a choice, and will have to suck it up if it back fires, much like Gilbert has had to do.

Is this the first fighter the UFC has lost the bidding war with in regards to OneFC?
