Couture: Tactical roles reversed for Silva/Sonnen 2

by Luke Thomas | source: mmafighting.com

"It's kind of odd," Couture told MMA Fighting at his Xtreme Couture facility recently in Las Vegas, Nevada. "Normally I would say that the onus is on the guy who won the first fight to anticipate the changes the loser is going to make and get the same outcome."

"If you look at Anderson and Chael, Anderson won by triangle choke with two minutes left. He didn't really win the fight. He got his ass whooped - literally - for four-plus rounds," Couture continued, "but it's almost like he was the guy that won. He wants it to go the same minus the triangle."

A fight finish does not have to be "ground breaking." It merely accomplishes the fight to be finished and you're hand to be raised, as Anderson's was last time.

This is certainly a well thought out and intelligent post. I, for one, am quite thankful I had the opportunity to read it. Please, oh great King Of BJJ, bestow more of your wisdom upon us.

But wait, weren't you listening to Andy last week when he said he was going to break all 4 of Sonnen's limbs, and bust all of his teeth out? HAHAHA...all the of the Silva worshippers sure believe this will happen, from what I'm reading on the UG...hahaha.Silva's going to have a tough time getting a KO when Sonnen will only be in his preferred range for about the first 3seconds of each round. Silva could definitely sub him, yawn, nothing ground breaking there. But totally dominate Sonnen? Doubtful.

Mostly true, yes. I keep saying that another thing that might be different is that I'm expecting Silva to have much better TDD than last time, assuming he's smart enough to have been working on it very intently over the last 2yrs....

and yes, i do get the unique situation of the winner perhaps wanting to "improve" or "change up" from his last winning performance.

But back to the gameplan thing, what really changes for Anderson or Chael?Anderson will try to KO or submit Chael.Chael will try take Andy down and GNP him and not get submitted.Im gonna go out on a limb here and say that was what both were trying to do the first time and what both will try to do again.

I thought Guida should have been warned by around the 3rd round and penalized for points if he continued. We could just as easily say anyone who thinks Andy didnt win the fight is also D-E-......

I think most people missed the point, Chael cum drinkers included.

Lol at the real fight comments. Anderson would have been unconscious if they were fighting on cement with his brains hanging out of his skull.
