White: I still have a plan for the middleweight division

source: InsideMMA

"I did have a gameplan and some thing that were gonna be fun. We're still gonna do it, just not the way I was gonna do it before. Things are gonna change. I love it when guys come out, and they're claiming that they want a shot at the title, they wanna be a world champion, and they come out, and they win convincingly. You can't always do it. It doesn't always happen, but the performance that I saw tonight, honestly?

Even though Boetsch won, and Boetsch is this incredible underdog that came up out of nowhere, now beating Okami and beating Lombard -- this guy is gonna be ranked in a serious position now. So, good for him. He's earned it. He deserves it, but I'm looking for guys like Weidman. Weidman comes out and destroys the number two, number three guy in the world and is ready to fight anybody, anytime, anywhere. He took the Demian Maia fight on short notice and cut 30 pounds to get ready for it, and I was looking at this thing, and every fight can't be the fight you expect it to be, but that was nothing I expected."

the problem is you have what could be the biggest star in the ufc. how do you sell him fighting a guy most casual fans don't know. weidman maybe be better then bisping but till his name gets out there more it is not smart to make the fight. bisbing prolly has the biggest name they cane use while they try to work on getting weidman more well known

WTF are you talking about? When the hell has Anderson fought once a year because of injuries?Since he won the title:2007 - 3 Fights2008 - 3 Fights2009 - 3 Fights2010 - 2 Fights2011 - 2 Fights2012 - 1 Fight so far Dana said Anderson is ready to go and wants to fight. So I guess what you are really suggesting is that they should create an interim title and let others play with it because nobody is beating Silva?

There is just no way in the world AS will fight JBJ. After he saw JBJ fight he said "that's my friend" so fast it could make your head spin. That's as much as a dream as him ever jumping in the cage with Fedor or Shogun or Evens or even Page. It's a definite never.

if jones beats hendo, i'll be disappointed in anything less than the anderson vs jones superfight as both their next matchups.we already might never see GSP vs diaz and potentially we could not see JDS vs reem. give us the big fights immediately when they are possible.no disrespect to weidman/boetsch/bisping, but if they don't make this superfight, i say we riot

F all this crap COMPLETELY. WTF did AS beat to fight for the belt?! Weidman earned it, he beat better in the UFC than AS did before his shot! He has two top 5 wins. Let the others square of for the winner.Chris Weidman Doesn't Want to ‘Share the Cage' with Anderson Silva; He Wants to Finish Him MMA WeeklyLast weekend, UFC president Dana White said that there was no clear cut No. 1 contender to face Anderson Silva next, but if they had to declare someone it would be Chris Weidman. Now the former Division-1 All-American is doing his part to put it in everyone's ears that he not only is at the top of the list, he is the list.“I feel like I really deserve it. I beat two top five guys and I think I'm a stylistic nightmare for Anderson Silva. I would love to get that shot. No one else is on a five fight win streak and beat the quality of guys I've beaten. I'm ready to speak up a little bit, just be confident in my abilities and respectfully call out Anderson Silva,” Weidman declared. There is a certain honor and prestige that goes along with fighting for a title in the UFC because so few fighters actually get to that level. Add to that the fact that Anderson Silva is by far the most dominant champion to ever step foot in the Octagon, and as his career starts to wind down the selection of opponents to face him will get even slimmer.Of course Weidman would consider it an honor to face Silva, but he's not looking to slap gloves, get knocked out and say “I stood in the cage with Anderson Silva once upon a time.”No, Chris Weidman wants to be the fighter that dethrones, chokes out, knocks out, and just plain finishes Anderson Silva.“If I'm fighting Anderson Silva, I'm going in there knowing I belong in there. I'm not going in there to beat him, I'm actually going in there I'm going to try to make a statement. I'm going to try to finish him. I know a lot of people who can't imagine that happening and think I might be crazy, but as a competitor that's the way I compete, that's the way I train to really be the best, and I think I am,” Weidman stated.“On paper, I'm definitely a stylistic nightmare and he's going to be going against a guy who's in there to beat him, and not like some of these other guys that he's fought that just want to share the cage with him.”Since Silva's last victory over Chael Sonnen, the champion's camp have listed a few possible names of opponents that could interest the middleweight king. While the UFC ultimately makes the decisions, Weidman understands why his name may not be mentioned when it comes to Silva's team.Sure, he's not the most well known guy in the sport, and he won't sell a fight like Chael Sonnen by talking trash and building up a rivalry.Weidman knows he would be a huge underdog, he knows he might even be the unlikeliest of contenders, but there is one indisputable truth that the New York native also truly believes. He can beat Anderson Silva.“I'm the only guy on a five fight win streak. I'm undefeated. I'm young. I want to be a young champion. I want to have this belt for a long time,” said Weidman. “You have to build names, you have to take risks as far as a company, as far as a promotion. You have to take risks with guys and I'm a good guy to do that with.”

That doesn't make them correct.People like to criticize Dana and the UFC for not giving out title shots based on Merit, and only on marketability, without the fighter having actually earned it. Randy and BJ have been criticized for this, there was a lot of criticism on the UG for Cain getting a re-match, even though he actually destroyed a top 10 fighter to get there. Now they are saying the exact opposite for Bisping. Can't have it both ways, UG.
