'Shogun' Rua stops Vera in the 4th

source: mmafighting.com

Brandon Vera was supposed to fold in the presence of Mauricio "Shogun" Rua. At least, that's what most thought, given the lopsided odds that had Rua favored by as much as 5-to-1 by the time the UFC on FOX 4 main event went off.

It wasn't quite so easy for Rua. In fact, it wasn't easy at all. Vera came to battle, and put a scare in Rua for three-and-a-half rounds, until Rua could finally put him away with a fourth-round knockout.

I don't think he played it off. I think he didn't get the question translated the 1st time. The 2nd time has was asked, he stated directly that he got tired sooner than he anticipated.

Vera did awesome imo.I like that Shogun looked so unhappy after the stoppage, as he should be. His cardio was gone before round 2 started, and it was interesting to hear him say he wasn't at his best or something to that effect, and when pressed by Rogan he just played it off.

He should have an Ironman athlete come in and train him for his cardio work-outs.

Yeah. If Shogun had " Nick Diaz" cardio, then he would be undefeated today.

On paper, Vera is one of the most complete fighters in the game. Shogun out struck, out wrestled and out BJJ'd Vera. If anything, this fight proved just how damn good (and well rounded) Shogun is. He just needs to find his cardio.
