Anderson Silva likely out til 2013

by Dann Stupp | source:

UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva has won 15 straight fights in the UFC, taking the record for title defenses (ten) and longest reign (over 2,100 days).

And now he is taking a break.

"Anderson said he wants to take some time off until after the end of this year, and then we'll start talking to him," UFC president Dana White said. "Anderson is going to fight after the end of the year."

A likely next fight is undefeated Chris Weidman. However, Silva's camp has been vocal about hopes for a super fight with welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre.

"They can be as vocal as they want to be," White said. "Whatever the fight is, the fight is. But we haven't decided anything."

"(Weidman is) in a great spot. The kid looked fanastic He demolished – demolished – the No. 3 guy (in the division) in spectacular fashion. He has the right to call out whoever he wants."

I mean, other than retirement, can I call it or can I call it ?   Not done yet. Keep your eyes out for another bump.

So now you're projecting your bad memory onto others as well as your inability to infer tone or emphasis from text?Come on now, brother. Please be honest and polite from now on and don't argue so much.

Anderson is getting old for MMA, I can see him wanting more time in between (either that, or starting TRT, which he probably doesn't want to do for a number of reasons). He wants the GSP fight because of money (again, getting close to retirement, and a big payday would be nice), but unfortunately GSP is now at least two fights from clearing out WW (Condit and Diaz), and there is a new crop of WW after that. It could be years before GSP has cleared out WW again. And that's assuming he can still do it - he might be more or less finished after that knee injury. If Condit or Diaz beats GSP (quite possible, even likely after a year's absence and that knee injury), an Anderson-GSP superfight makes no sense. So at this point, Anderson, assuming he's going to choose his last few fights with money in mind (and he's earned that right), has to wait to see what happens in WW. I suspect he's praying that GSP returns to form - GSP losing (again, quite possible) to anyone in WW will make a potentially huge payday crumble.

" Who in the hell thinks Weidman is a tougher fight for Anderson than Rashad would be?" Everyone on the UG suddenly does. After months if not years of saying Anderson was ducking guys like Rashad by fighting at 185, as soon as his management said they'd be interested in that fight, suddenly Anderson is terrified of Chris Weidman because he beat Mark Munoz.

Yeah this guy is actually busting out quotes from months ago or longer in all kinds of threads trying to "catch" me or something... I honestly have not ever run into a poster this obsessed. I fear that I will find my pet rabbit on my stove any day now...

I have no idea how people can be ignorant enough to say Anderson is ducking Weidman, when he'd rather fight Rashad.Mind-bottling.Who in the hell thinks Weidman is a tougher fight for Anderson than Rashad would be?

"LnP - Keep stalking brah, keep stalking. It is flattering to know that you have a folder on your PC dedicated to posts/quotes of a random poster on the internet you don't even know."LOL. Kid you certainly have an ego on you. You accused me of this as well, which is really amusing since you tend to continually quote what I write. I could give a rats ass about the drivel you spout. Jones vs. Silva, that is the fight the fans want to see.

bisping vs. weidman for #1 spot, make it happen Dana. Only fight that makes sense at this point. Bisping has paid his dues
