Helwani: I heard Jones deal with Nike is worth $20k per year

source: mmafighting.com

On this week's The MMA Hour, Ariel Helwani reported an utterly baffling figure about Jon Jones' deal with Nike. According to Helwani's source, Jones is not getting Anderson Silva money from Nike, he's getting McDonald's money - not sponsorship from McDonalds, but burger flipping at McDonalds money.

"Congratulations to Jon Jones for signing that big deal with Nike," said Helwani. "According to Dana White he will be dressed in Nike from head to toe. Come September 1st, he will be wearing Nike, inside the Octagon...

"He is not the first guy, to have the swoosh on him in a fight of course. Anderson Silva was representing Nike when he fought Chael Sonnen. But this is a different kind of deal.

"This is a global deal. This is the first North American fighter to be sponsored by Nike
terms of the deal haven't been disclosed just yet

"What I heard from one source, just one, was that it was a one year deal worth $20,000. That's what I heard, but I have not been able to confirm that with multiple sources. One source very close to Jon, by the way, I should say. It's not like it's just source your know out of the blue."

Given that Ari Emanuel who brokered the deal wears $20,000 suits, and that Jon Jones is the future of MMA, the $20,000 per year figure is absurd. $20,000 per month is vastly more plausible.

(7:30 mark)

In fact, on the MMA hour Ariel recently said the figure was in error. Helwani related that he received a phone call from Jon Jones stating that the $20,000 figure he reported Jones earned for the Nike deal was incorrect. Ariel contends that his source is generally very reliable and apologized to Jones for the mistake.

Exactly... 6-7 years ago Chuck was making around $1M a year from sponsors and now that Nike is Jones sole sponsor, he's at $20K. It's absolutely baffling there are people dumb enough to believe that is even close to the ballpark of his pay.

GSP has 14 different sponsors that pay him in the 6-figure range, yet Bones is going to sign with the biggest sponsor in the world for peanuts.   OK idiots. "St-Pierre currently has 14 endorsement deals with each paying him somewhere in the six-figure range. If you tally up the numbers from past and present deals, his income outside the cage is well into eight figures, with much of it coming in the past year alone." http://www.mixedmartialarts.com/news/432402/How-GSP-made-millions-while-injured/

You don't have to argue but you should at least try and use an ounce of common sense, once.  Of course multi billion dollar companies don't throw money around, and I highly doubt Nike reps think having their logo on Fox, Fox sports, Fuel, FX, etc... is "throwing it around frivously."  Yet you apparently think that Jon Jones would accept an extremely low sponsor amount when it's been shown the faces of the UFC make millions a year in sponsor money.  Apparently Jones is the only one who doesn't want that kind of money and would rather work for next to nothing. I posted Sean McCorkles sponsor money on this thread earlier.  He received $7K from TCB (Taking Care of Business) a fight, a t-shirt company who I'd never heard of before his fight and haven't heard of since.  Meaning, he made $21K from them over the course of the year.  The fact that some of you dumbshits think TCB pays Sean McCorkle more than Nike pays UFC LHW champ and most dominant LHW in the history of the UFC is comical.

I don't think I've ever said I believe Ariel's number, just that you people here throwing around numbers at talking out of your ass. No point in arguing with you anymore, you really think big companies just throw around money frivolously because it's just "peanuts".

Then you should be extremely annoyed by Ariel and the other idiots that mention the $20/ year number, as they were clearly talking out their ass.  However, we still have really dumb people like you who believe it despite the fact that Ariel himself, the one who brought the rumor to attention, retracted and apologized for being wrong.  Funny you still can't do that.  LOL at Jones every having a shoe/clothing line he says.  Fuck you're an idiot.
