Greg Jackson: Jones would have fought Sonnen on Sept. 22nd

by Mike Straka | source: Sirius XM Sports

"I was asked if it was smart to take a fight on three days notice and I don't think it's smart to do that. Three days to fight a guy that caliber is not a smart thing to do. I'm not trying to ruin the sport or cancel an event. I don't know about that stuff, but thought it wasn't a wise course of action. It's a serious fight with serious ramifications. I didn't mean to cancel an event and was asked to give an opinion and I gave it.

I didn't know they had it all riding on one fight. It's one of those a trainer. I'll give you my opinion. I'm not a yes man...I do what's best for my guy. I'm surprised by the veracity of his response but that's my opinion. In this case (of the short notice fight), it's a world title fight in the best sport in the world on three days notice. This isn't backyard's a professional sport. I think Chael is brilliant. He circumvented an entire division...went right from Anderson (Silva) to Jon. It's brilliant...he's got nothing to lose and everything to gain. I'm always impressed by him."

if Jones is so shit-hot, he could've put on a clinic on Sonnen, showcasing his skills. would've still been exciting, and his boss and millions of fans wouldn't be pissed at him. not so lose-lose. now it's lose by forfeit.

So if Jones would've crushed Sonnen in 2 rounds Chael would be saying he was out of shape and using the short notice as an excuse. Jones would not get credit for the victory over an out of shape MW who just got crushed in his last fight. Chael would keep flapping his gums and would probably get another undeserved title shot. Lose-Lose for Jones IMO.

Jackson always shows no confidence in his fighters. He has them point fight and take no chances And he has no confidence in their best fighter beating a blown up middleweight And give me a break his style is almost exactly the same as Henderson.

and he actually worked his way to get to that position,he earned it.and then they wanna hand someone he does not care for an opportunity to take what he earned and had to work for.and help him put money in his pocket.then when jbj beats him down its cause he only had 8 days notice and chael is still in the picture talking his way to another title shot at him after putting together a two fight win streak against guys out of the top ten...cause he could beat him with a full camp.i could already see this happening,it was lose lose for jbj.lose lose situation, the risk far out weighed the reward

Are you smarter than a fifth grader?....No, no you are not. I know it's your first post, but all the errors have me scratching my head as to if you are regarded or went to public school in the south.

Jones is delusional. He thinks he is ten feet tall, but he is an ego-maniac and a fake little boy. I wish I could post the text I got from a fellow UFC fighter about him earlier, today. It was perfect. Can't WAIT to hear how bad he gets booed from here on out, but especially at 152.

Meh who cares about all this B.S. the guy has a right to turn down random opponents. He was booked to fight Dangerous Dan. He pulled out due to injury so did Jones. This will have no long lasting ramifications to Jon's MMA career. Dana will throw whomever he can under the bus to take the blame off of him. The UFC is a professional organization they should have a better back-up plan than this finger pointing. It's Dana's fault just as much as it's JJ's.
