Jose Aldo opens as -155 favorite over Frankie Edgar

by Steven Marrocco | source:

Noted oddsmaker Joey Odessa has set Frankie Edgar at +125 to Champ Jose Aldo's -155 in the new headliner of UFC 153, which takes place Oct. 13 at HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro and airs live on pay-per-view, FX and Facebook.

"I think it's a winnable fight for Frankie," Odessa told "You're going to get an honest fight out of Edgar. Whether you get honest judges remains to be seen."

"If they fought in Jersey, I may be inclined to make Frankie the favorite. Edgar is going to have to keep from getting chopped down (by Aldo's leg kicks). Frankie is just got to fight like Frankie. He's got to be disciplined and not get caught with anything big. It's not out of the realm of possibility (that he wins). He did hurt Gray Maynard."

"The early money will be on Aldo because there's higher prices out there, and then they'll come back on Edgar. The late money will be on Edgar."

You really think the only reason he wouldn't get cut for that is because white likes him? Not because it would be two loses to Henderson and one to Aldo? No one would get cut after that.

Yep. The guy obviously doesn't pay attention. Frankie is always underestimated. Benson is MASSIVE compared to Aldo. Huge. Frankie moving down a division is turning all of his weaknesses in to strengths.

I hope you mean that figuratively, otherwise I don't want to know why anyone would expouse sexual excitement to see to men go at it in the ring.

Well he has lost two consecutive fights, one more and he faces being cut (but since he is White's favorite son, I doubt it) with a third loss. While it won't be a cake walk by any means, Aldo will win this fight. Aldo has three things gives him the odds:1) He has fought and BEAT better competition (Faber, Brown)2) He has NOT lost in SEVEN years. That's on par with Anderson Silva.3)He also fought at LW, so the talk about the size of Edgar shows most fans don't know to check fighters's history before they start talking.

LOL at Frankie "supposed" to winning against Sherk or BJ. Even against BJ the second time he was an underdog. I think Frankie was the favorite against Benson the first time, but other then that he's been the underdog for every single one of his title fights.

Small edge? I don't understand what you mean that people always underestimate Frankie? I think that they overestimate him. He won fights he was supposed to win (Penn, Spencer, Sherk, Griffith etc.).The fact he lost consecutively to Bendo, was proof he would not compete effectively against either Pettis or Cerrone.White even knew this and suggested he step down in weight class. Pitting him against Aldo, the champ, after losing two straight fights, clearly show that White is showing favoritism. There are several guys who should have been given the title shot. The debacle is no different than throwing Sonnen a shot at the title after losing to the middleweight champ. The UFC is turning into a greasy and dirty promotion of Don King proportion.
