Pat Miletich: Tim Sylvia is the poster child for overachievement

source: bloodyelbow.com

Tim Sylvia came under fan fire over the weekend for his performance vs. Andrei Arlovksi.

After a solid first round, Sylvia faded some in the second, and was caught with two brutal straight rights, which dropped him.

Arlovski followed up with two soccer kicks, before the referee indicated he could as required under One FC's unusual rule set. Sylvia was unable to continue and the bout was declared a No Contest, in a further highly unusual step (ordinarily an intentional foul that results in a fighter being unable to continue means the fight is decided in favor of the injured party).

The fans who wished Sylvia had kept fighting have never been soccer kicked in the face by Andrei Arlovski.

While not always a huge fan favorite, Tim Sylvia has earned the respect of Pat Miletich, one of the greatest trainers in MMA history, who had a unique window onto Sylvia's development.

"I'll tell you what," said Miletich. "Of all guys on the planet who were not physically gifted by God... that guy was great. When Tim was training with us, when he moved out from Maine, I would watch him try to jump rope, and he'd literally almost break down in tears because he couldn't do it.

"I'd look at Hughes and Pulver and those guys and say, 'I just don't have the heart to tell this guy to go back to Maine. He's trying so damned hard.'

"He stuck with it, and ended up winning the heavyweight world title. I would say that Tim is the poster child for over-achievement. If there's anybody out there that doubts themselves, take a look at the belief that Tim Sylvia had in himself. He won a world title, and that's pretty impressive."

I've noticed a trend of people supporting or wanting to see Sylvia in the UFC probably never saw him in the UFC before based on their join date. 95% of the people on this board at the time he was champ abosolutely wanted him gone, out of the UFC at that time. It's just odd seeing so many people wanting him back in. IMO he hasn't earned it. He doesn't deserve it. If anyone earned they're way back in it's AA.

Tim Sylvia is a Legend of the Sport. So what if Cindy O - Dana Whites Mouthpiece & Paid Poster, do not give Tim the credit he deserves. He has the Championship belts that Zuffa cannot ever take away from him.

Vulva you've always been a level headed mod but come on.All I said was the HW talent pool was shallow (something even Dana has said), and that Tim's biggest wins were against Arlovski and Vera and I got frozen. Really? After all the vitriolic trashing of Sylvia and the blatant troll threads calling him a loser and a quitter and my post is the one that gets frozen? Nevermind that I've been on this forum since day one, never directed any post at Tim personally, and simply stated an opinion. An opinion that 90% of the UG has said for years. I did have to LOL at all the name calling though. That's why I love you guys.

yeah i like sylvia and he's not a bad fighter at all but to act like he wasn't blessed with natural gifts is just fucking retardedyes, he's uncoordinated, alot of tall guys are. Shaq is not the most graceful guy in the world but you wouldn't say he wasn't blessed by God with physical gifts because he obviously was

Still just disrespectful of Pat Miletich's comments on Tim.  You need to read the fucking article.  And see how wrong you are. And realize that size isn't everything in a fight. Fedor vs. Tim II anyone? That's a fight someone should make
