Kyra Gracie confident vs. Ronda Rousey, in a submission match

by Guilherme Cruz | source: tatame.com

Tatame recently interviewed Kyra Gracie about Ronda Rousey and Cris Cyborg.

“She has great skills pulling off that armbar. Congratulations," complimented Gracie. “I guess she’s doing a great job representing women in MMA. She has a good Judo background and managed to well adapt her skills to MMA. Each fight she comes better and better on ground and stand-up skills."

“She’s training Jiu-Jitsu with my cousin Cesar in San Francisco, and I can see she’s evolving."

“I’m training right now. I added Boxing to my training routine, I’m training with Claudio Coelho but I always focus more in Jiu-Jitsu because that’s where I come from. MMA growth makes me think about it more and more each day. I’m studying some propositions and checking with my coaches when would be the best moment to do it. But it doesn’t slow things down."

“I gotta take one step at a time. I can’t do it all at once and then break down. I’m a white belt at this sport."

However, Kyra trust her ground game skills in a possible future fight against Ronda.

“I have pretty good armbar defense; I proved that already in Jiu-Jitsu tournaments”, said a laughing Gracie, who added in a submission or jiu-jitsu match, she would have the advantage over Rousey. "I’m an expert at Submission, so…"

“They’re not in the same weight class, but I wanna watch it in case it happens," Gracie said of a superfight between Ronda Rousey and Cris Cyborg when the latter comes off her suspension for PEDs. "It’s hard to predict an outcome for this fight because each fight is unique."

“I guess Cris is more complete because she has a great stand-up and has been evolving a lot on the ground, and she’s a two-time world champion (of Jiu-Jitsu) on the purple belt. Ronda is an Olympian athlete, who trains since she was a little girl and is used to suffering from training."

“I trained Jiu-Jitsu with Cris in San Diego earlier this year, before World. It would be a great experience and we both benefit from it."

“Since I trained with her before World I could notice her moves and explosion. I knew it would be hard to take that world title from her."

You guys saying that kyra is nothing in Judo or whatever based on her not making the olympic team are being pretty ridiculous. She could be top 5 in Brazil in Judo at her weight and that doesnt guarantee that she will make the team. Think about how many spots there are for each weight per country in the olympics. It isnt like they send 5 people per weight class. So she isnt top 2 in her weight in brazil for Judo. Doesnt mean she doesnt know Judo or will be outgrappled. That said, rhonda would smash her (unfortunately).

I agree with the shitty rules in Gi BJJ, hell I am cutting weight and preparing for one of the tournaments right now. I am not a fan of a lot of the stuff in them for sure. A lot of the top level no gi guys do come from the Gi though and use the 50/50 to reap and do nothing but reverse heel hook. That said 50/50 in the gi is a joke I agree there.

Funny isnt it. MMA World Champion has easily beaten everyone she has faced.. not an MMA fighter.I'd rather be that kind of non MMA fighter than some gatekeeper who is well rounded but not strong enough at anything to actually win fights against fighters like Rhonda.

I'm sure Kyra knows bjj reaping leglocks but sambo leglocks are different because they come from standing transistions and different angles. I don't think Kyra works on leglocks as much as Ronda does. Kyra knows armbars but her arms can't compare to ronda's armbars, sam ething with the leglocks. I don't think the ADCC ever allowed slamming , in fact I remember a couple people getting DQ in 2007 for slamming.Alot of bjj people are using the 50/50 guard because they don't fear reaping leglocks.

Ronda was considered the #2 women Judoka in the world when was competing. She use to school Kayla Harrison the 78kg olypmic and world champion on the ground and stnading.Wrestling does not even allow submissions.
