Bellator hwt champion Cole Konrad retires to trade in milk products

The news broke on a Minnesota news site:

Former Gophers NCAA heavyweight champion wrestler Cole Konrad, who won $100,000 as defending Bellator mixed martial arts champion, has retired from fighting and taken a job with North Central Trading as a financial trader specializing in milk products.

The Konrad family has been involved in agricultural trading for generations, so the change is not as surprizing as it appears to be.

Cole Konrad retires, status of belt unknown

Cole Konrad, a two-time NCAA wrestling champ who transitioned to MMA and dominated the competition in the tournament-based promotion, is for now retiring from the sport.

Bellator officials declined comment on Konrad's retirement.

The 28-year-old explains the decision.

“This decision has been on my mind for a while, and the time was finally right to make the move,” said Konrad. “I wrestled my whole life and it was one of the only things I ever knew. When my college career was over, MMA seemed like the natural progression, but it was never really my passion. I thoroughly enjoyed my time inside the Bellator cage, but having the consistency and stability of going to the office every day is something that just made sense to me.”

“I can’t say enough good things about my time with Bellator. I enjoyed every second of my time in the cage, and having a boss like Bjorn was a pleasure. Bellator does things the right way, and if I ever find myself back in the cage, there is no doubt in my mind it will be with Bellator.”

It'd be a shame to see him retire. His dynamic risk it all costs style, go for broke ruthless bludgeoning of his opponents was always something that had me rivited to the tube. Mr fucking excitement.
