GSP: Van Damme my 'dream fight'

by Dave Deibert | source:

While Ultimate Fighting Championship fans are salivating over the prospects of a historic battle between UFC welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre and middleweight king Anderson Silva, St-Pierre has his own idea of a fantasy fight.

"I would have liked to fight Jean-Claude Van Damme in 'Bloodsport'," St-Pierre said with a grin, imagining himself a role in the iconic '80s martial arts film.

"That would have been my dream fight, in an MMA cage."

Hat tip to notlookoutawhale Since remakes are being made of several other campy 80s movies, maybe there can be a remake of Bloodsport starring GSP and having him represent kyokushin karate(if they want to continue with the style vs. style thing). In a way he bears more than a passing resembelence to a younger JCVD.

The big question is that if GSP fights Silva, will they have Van Damme and Segal in their corners respectively.

Bahaha oh GSP. There was a good week were either JCVD visited the gym or he went to visit JCVD and his twitter was just full of pictures of him grinning and standing next to him. Then when I saw the Expendables 2 I could only think of GSP being a giant fanboy throughout lol

JCVD is going to hold him to this. A friendly karate fight in a cage would do so much more for his career than getting blasted by Kamsing in a thai figh.No one knows Somrack Kamsing compared to GSP, so this is a huge pr chance, and a way to get a foot inside the "new" martial arts craze. His relationship with Fedor didn't help much but make him seem creepy I hope he's the new Seagal

Hmmm. Well that was over 30 years since Van Damme last participated in any competition, so a dream match is a moot point even as a fantasy. With that said, it should be noted that those movies from the late 80s and early 90s did present a lot of no holds barred fights. That was techinically MMA before UFC came to being.Todays breed of MMA fighters should be able to go back into time and destroy even the toughest no holds barred guys in Thailand or Brazil.
