Frank Mir injures knee, out vs. Daniel Cormier

by Ken Pishna | source:

The news that Strikeforce is not immune to the injury bug broke on the prolific Gabriel Morency's Sports Rage.

The fight wasn’t slated to take place under the UFC banner, but the UFC injury bug has bitten once again as former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir has been knocked out of his bout against Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix winner Daniel Cormier.

Sources close to the bout confirmed the news to late Tuesday night.

The two were slated to square off in the main event of Strikeforce: Cormier vs. Mir on Nov. 3 in Oklahoma City, Okla.

It was expected to be the first big crossover fight between the two Zufffa-owned promotions with Cormier moving over to the UFC after the bout since Strikeforce will be doing away with the heavyweight division.

Not much depth at the heavyweight division in Strikeforce or UFC. The only heavyweight that might be available for the fight and have a realistic chance of winning is Werdum.

I think Mark Hunt would be a great opponent for Cormier, because of Hunt's TDD and the contrast in styles. Kongo would be good as well.

"   LOL serious? Is this a troll? Former K-1 Champ, granite chin with massive KO power that Mark Hunt?" Massive KO power? He has like two legit KOs in MMA and Kongo was also put down by one punch from Mir.
