Jones: I didn't know UFC 151 would be cancelled

"I don't really know if it would have made much of a difference if they had told me, but they didn't tell me they were going to cancel the fight. They asked me to put my whole livelihood on the line. I train five times a day and being the champion, it means more to me than it means to any fan, it means more to me than what it means to Dana White. If I would have somehow lost that fight, Dana wouldn't have lost any sleep over it. Life would have gone on and I would have been the one stuck out there.

So, I don't know if it would have made much of a difference. Ultimately, why wasn't that a good enough card? What was wrong with that card? Why did it have to be cancelled? I watch bar fights. I love fight at all levels. I think it was more of an insult to the fighters on the card, pretty much saying they weren't good enough to host the card without me and Henderson. At the end of the day, I would have done what was best for my career and I can't really carry the weight of what happened because it really wasn't my thing. I showed up to fight."

I think it's great they're building JBJ back-up. He's a young guy..

Here's the beautiful thing- they don't make decisions about who gets which OTN bonuses based on what the UG thinks=)  As much as I can't stand JBJ, I can see why he got the bonus over Vinny- he earned it. They're not going to deny him something he earned (that's open to EVERY fighter). And I love how you're trying to overlook that I had already stipulated LOCKER ROOM bonuses in the quote we're talking about. Cindy

Exactly. She says they won't give him ANYTHING that's not in his contract. So tonight he gets sotn when two others could have and she back pedals and has an excuse. Typical in here.

So they had to give him the bonus?  Who forced them to?   A majority on this board felt Vinny deserved the bonus and had the better submission of the night.  The UFC/Dana had a choice and they chose to give it to Jones.  Funny they would do that since, as you put it, they will not give him anyting that isn't in his contract.

You dummy. They didn't give him the bonus because they WANTED to, did they? There were 3 subs on the card and his was the most impressive. And DISCLOSED bonuses aren't free rides, the locker room bonuses are, like I said. Sooo... Cindy

So you really think if he goes out and puts a hell of a show on and highlight reel knock out and gets ko and fight of the night you don't think he will get a bonus? Some reason I don't think that's the case. It's pathetic really. Many people didn't step up for the canceled event. If the card was a solid card it would have went on. All this shit that jones is getting and saying he doesn't deserve and or won't get anymore bonuses its complete shit. The dude goes out and fights more than anyone else and puts a Better show on than anyone else and because he didn't step up and fight someone who he was in a no win situation with is stupid.

I didn't bother writing anything to you because it's clear your a deluded troll. It makes no sense in this case that the UFC did NOT tell JBJ that the event would be canceled because of his his refusal to fight a completely outclassed MW who did not even train for the event. There was too much at stake ($$) not to give him the data (per Dana's assertion that he did so after the the very first question on the con call). The UFC, with so much cash at stake certainly logically would use every bit of leverage they had to get JBJ to fight. So in effect JBJ is calling Dana and the UFC dumb asses for not at least using whatever leverage that they may have had and possibly could work (to get him to fight a totally inferior MW) to save the event.Dana does lie about any number of things but this this is hard to swallow as fact. The UFC is after all somewhat successful and no one gets that way by being a COMPLETE bone head in general. In terms of you trying desperately to pin the blame on anyone else to try to escape the fact that JBJ's team said they fear losing to Sonnen which is a VERY bad joke, Hendo fully 100 percent planed on fighting if he followed the medical advise he was given (to stay off the knee) and had fought injured many times before and never missed a fight.Dana has thrown together weak cards as he's never in control of how many fighters are stars at any second and the UFC has lots of fighters under contract that need to eat.JBJ could have fought a joke of an opponent and collected the easiest paycheck he'd ever get but he refused. He did NOT "come to fight" without exception.

'Work to Rule' - 'Pay to Rule' does such a thing exist? He contracted to fight Henderson and nothing more or anything else, they now pay him only what his contract stipulates until it expires and nothing more or anything else. The real problem is where is the short-fall from the missing 151 to come from? They are in the hole for at least 1 million dollars even up to 5 million dollars in advertising/other...etc. This has to be made up somehow, and one can surely suspect that it will come from any saving possible now and in the future until it is complete. And that will include bonuses to all the other fighters. No one in business is expected to simply "eat" that loss; what will happen is points will be shaven off of all  bonuses to all fighters now and in the immediate future until that loss is recovered. No fighter should expect at this time any monumentally generous bonus as seen in the past, rather a token bare minimal one until the books are balanced. Jon Jones in his youthful naivety and self-professed business man claims, fails to realise that he has upset the apple-cart in more ways than one. Fighters need to know where to turn their disappointed looks when they open that envelope and a meager bonus check glares back at their sweaty bloodied faces.
