Hardy in it for the love, not the money

source: mmaweekly.com

“I’m doing this sport for no other reason than I love it and that’s really the bottom line for me. If I was looking to make a load of money, I would be a boxer. Obviously, now we’re seeing Jon Jones picking up Nike sponsorships, there’s money to be made now, but when I got into it, it was because I loved the sport,” Hardy commented.

“Nothing’s changed. I want to get in there and fight guys. I’m a fighter and I come to fight, and I think as long as you show up with that mentality, the fight is going to be exciting because you’re trying to beat the guy up.”

So when the fans show up in Nottingham this weekend, they can expect and old-school Dan Hardy performance, and judging by his record in those kinds of fights, he’s going to do just fine.

What was I misinterpreting or criticizing? I said he would never have got close to the top of boxing, which is fairly logical

Nitpick??? Don't forget you are the one who came on here misinterpreting and criticizing a mans livelihood. Be prepared to have to back up your statements and claims. He may have started MMA at 22 but has been training martial arts since the age of 6.

Well if you want to nitpick then I've seen his hands and they are pretty underwhelming, he got into MMA at 22 good luck having any sort of success starting Boxing at that age and getting past a regional level. Unless you are another level of athlete like Martinez or Cintron

I think Hardy would have done better at kickboxing than boxing, had he chosen that instead of MMA. He has good kicks, but he seems to get away from them in his fights when they're working for him.

There's a difference between watching and understanding!

No, you have seen his striking, not his boxing.MMA striking and boxing are different, you get that right? Striking is one element of his training vs the only element which generates a very different result.

What's to say he can't be a great boxer? Well he started fighting in MMA in 04 so I would assume he's been at least training boxing part time since then, and I have seen his boxing

Ohh and who's to say he wouldn't be a great boxer? He was able to become a top tier MMA fighter and is an extremely dedicated martial artist. If he had focused that energy into boxing who's to say he wouldn't have been a great boxer?
