UFC on FX main card highlights

Justin Edwards vs. Josh Neer

Once the first round got underway it was Edwards that came out swinging. Both men clinched up against the cage. Neer had double underhooks and appeared to be looking for a takedown. But Edwards climbed up Neer’s body like Spiderman and sunk in an arm-in guillotine. Neer tried to fight it off, but fell to the mat, unconscious. He woke up to the gentle voice of the referee telling him it was over.

Edwards defeated Neer via submission in the 1st round.

Yves Edwards vs. Jeremy Stephens

This was supposed to be a main card fight, but was cancelled (read what Dana White had to say about the situation: http://www.mixedmartialarts.com/news/426285/Dana-white-furthur-explains-situation-with-Jeremy-Stephens-arrest/).  The fight was replaced with a re-airing of a prelim fight.

Michael Johnson vs. Danny Castillo

After dropping Johnson on the canvas with a hard right, Castillo looked to finish things off with a choke, but couldn’t secure it.

In round two Johnson countered with a left that turned the tide. Castillo ate canvas and didn’t get a chance to recover as Johnson jumped on him like he was Ralphie beating the crap out of Farkus.

John Dodson vs. Jussier Formiga

This fight had title implications - the winner would meet Demetrious Johnson for the flyweight championship title.

Round one was lackluster with both fighters computing the other’s range, footwork and punching power. Boos from the crowd did not heat things up any.

In round two Formiga shot in, but Dodson was too quick. Halfway into the round the Five-Hour energy drink finally kicked in and Dodson dropped Formiga with a left. Dodson was hesitant to finish Formiga on the ground and allowed his opponent to recover to his feet. Formiga appeared to have the “Jimmy legs.” Dodson sensed that and pushed the pace, dropping Formiga once again with a hard left and followed it up with big shots from behind.

Dodson defeated Formiga via TKO (Punches) in the 2nd round.

Jake Ellenberger vs. Jay Hieron

It appeared Hieron’s inside leg kicks would give him round one. But it was the excitement of the takedown attempt that may have trumped that. Ellenberger leaped up in the air and turned the tables putting Hieron on the mat.

In round two the big action came when Ellenberger took Hieron down and ended up in closed guard. Ellenberger landed a nasty elbow, which was more than enough for Hieron to sense “Danger, Danger” and push-kick Ellenberger off to return to his feet.

Round three it was Hieron pushing the pace with kicks. Ellenberger looked for the takedown. But Hieron refused to play the role of grappling dummy and remained light on his feet. The fight ended with the crowd giving both fighters a piece of their mind.

Ellenberger defeated Hieron via unanimous decision

Travis Browne vs. Antonio Silva

The main fight of the night began with Silva stepping into the middle of the cage with his hands held high. Browne opened with a few punches followed by a spinning kick. Silva ate a knee as he pressed Browne against the cage looking for a takedown.  Once they were separated, both fighters traded leather. Bigfoot won the exchange, putting his Bigfoot fists cleanly into Browne’s face.

Silva defeated Browne via referee stoppage in the first round.

All the so called journalists are a disgrace on these sites. They all must have lost a ton of money on this fight, cause nobody wants to give Bigfoot any respect. Calling Bigfoot's jaw glass when he put his fist through Travis' & made his eyes roll around his head is a joke. Yeah Travis hurt his hamstring in the fight, but that doesn't take away from the fact that he was sloppy & got caught bad with his hands down & was getting caught before he got hurt. The hamstring had nothing to do with him holding his hands low & taking a vicious overhand right on the button. Many fighters get hurt in fights & still don't get finished, but he did & got beaten down bad. Travis also wrapped his arm around the top of the cage preventing Bigfoot from getting on top of him sooner & pounding his face in then.

Silva had his hands up to protect his glass jaw? Really? Not a very professional statement.
