Silva brilliant, finishes Bonnar in the 1st

by Mike Chiappetta | source:

Even as he readied for UFC 153, Anderson Silva was faced with questions about the future. Stephan Bonnar was just a temporary distraction, it seemed, and some real challenge lied into the future. Maybe it was Jon Jones, or maybe it was Georges St-Pierre, but Saturday night was just some formality.

It's not supposed to be that easy when a fighter moves up in weight, up some 20 pounds, but Silva has made a career out of the extraordinary, which explains why he was such a massive favorite to begin with.

Showing little regard for any danger Bonnar presented, Silva essentially toyed with him for most of the first round before finally unleashing. Uncoiling a perfectly timed, full-power knee to Bonnar's chest, Silva scored a knockdown, and a few ground strikes later, it was over.

as long as Silva sees the punches coming I think he can take almost anything. I've only seen him surprised by a punch once and that was in the first Chael fight... the funny thing about that is he came out and threw that exact punch back at Chael in the late rounds.

do you guys really think that a guy of Bonnar's stature and ability could punch Silva in the face and Silva just shrugs it off like it's nothing? That doesnt seem weird to you at all? and no, I do not think the forest fight was fixed.

Delete my account if the mods so choose, I am not an Anderson hater, but after watchng, I just sense a thrown fight. That was so rediculous when he was standing there over and over... I mean really? right in front of Bonnar? a black belt in Tae Kwon do? Everything about this fight just tells me that it was faked... Bonnar is huge, a good wrestler, couldn't even come close to a takedown, but Silva can just shrug his shoulders and move Bonnar 2 feet away? More than once! and then he just trips him like it's nothing. One knee and Bonnar is finished and all people have been talking about is his ability to take punishment? I CALL BULLSHIT! Faked fight to build Anderson's legacy and (somehow) add more hype the impending super fight between Silav and GSP/Jones...

I just watched the Bonnar v Jones fight again. Jones was throwing Bonnar around like a rag doll for two rounds before he gassed a little and Bonnar was able to get in some shots.Granted that was a while ago, but you would assume that both fighters have enhanced their game since then. So for Bonnar to be dismantled so effortlessly speaks volumes of his abilities, although it can be argued that today's Jones could easily dispatch Bonnar also.
