White details Meniere's treatment

source: The Underground

MMA fighters are revered for being so approachable and down to Earth. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the same is true of UFC President Dana White.

A fan on the UG recently directed a question to White, about Meniere's disease.

So my wife just got struck with this horrible sickness.

You basically told before that their is a medecin that you tested but that it only works on 50% of the people..

Just curious what that medicine is?

All we have been informed about now is some breakfast flake and balance training and not stress/work too much...

Would be awesome with a reply since I kinda want to see my Hot wife in HIGH HEELS AGAIN!

White replied promptly.

I do literally none of that s--- but just take the meds. They say if u follow the rules and takes the meds it should really help. I can't live like that.

I know exactly when it's coming because my head gets tight and I lose my hearing. That's the only good part is that I get a warning and can prepare for it. My Dr gives me some shots that help too so When I get the attack I don't want to dive out of a window. When I was in Canada the shots are illegal there!!! I can't imagine living there and having this. THAT WOULD SUCK!!!!

Bro, I can't open my eyes for days when i get a bad attack. That's why u have to get the shots it really slows the spinning down and makes it so ur not laying in the fetal position for hours.

MMAJunkie reports that White is about to undergo a surgery with a 70% chance of success.

White was expected to undergo a procedure back in May that would have involved cutting his vestibular nerve to treat symptoms. Doctors ultimately decided against it even though White pushed for it while knowing it wasn't a cure-all and could require a lengthy recovery period.

"I don't give a s--- what it does," he told MMAjunkie.com of the latest treatment option. "I just want to do it to see if it works."

It's actually a less intensive surgery than the one he wanted back in May, which doctors told him a 50-50 shot of improving him symptoms.

"They actually have this new thing they're going to try on me," he said. "The one thing was to cut the nerve, but they're not going to cut the nerve. They're going make an incision in the back of my ear, and they're going to insert a tube. I'll have a 70 percent chance of this not coming back, which I like better than 50 percent."

"I'll be right back the next day," he said of the surgery.

interesting you say this; I had a thing for years which i (think) i have finally got rid of, i used to get these mad periods of serious pressure on my sinuses and between my eyes, like id want to drill a hole in it to relieve it, used to drive me nuts, and at the same time i would scratch like fuck on the back of my calfs, nowhere else tried all sorts, nothing worked, clearly wasnt a normal headache or anything. Someone noted that it might be fungal; i read about it, tried an anti fungal (i packed cream into my nose and snorted it; i dont necessarily recommend this to anyone but thats some idea of how crazy this was driving me) and long story short, not had any recurrence for ages, the relief was fucking unreal. I used to scratch my calfs til they bled, it was a fucking nightmare when it kicked in, even without the head pressure. i also used to drink a lot of craft beer; all beer has yeast content and though brewers and doctors say that the yeast cant do anything to humans i just dont agree, since i stopped drinking that kind of beer (or beer in general really) i think its definitely had an effect. If you are fungal or yeast-prone, beer definitely accelerates that

You don't literally have _no_ salt in your diet (you need a certain amount to stay alive), you just restrict sodium to under 1000 mg or under 1500 mg daily depending who you ask. Just reading about the effects of this disease is making me nauseous, and I'm no stranger to fucked up medical conditions. Mad respect to Dana White for soldiering through this thing.

Hey everyone,I may be new here, but I'm here because I'd like to help everyone out (including DFW, although he's made his mind up already about the surgery). My mother has dealt Meniere's Disease for over 15 years now. I say dealt with, not suffered from, because she's been very fortunate to have a doctor who knew what most don't. I myself work in a hospital lab, not that that makes me a doctor, but it does mean I'm quite knowledgeable about how drugs work inside your body.Triamterene-hctz, is not what doctors call "Serc" (its Serc, not cerc btw). Serc is Betahistine Hydrochloride, and it is NOT FDA approved for us in the U.S. as treatment for Meniere's. However, you CAN get your doctor to get permission to have the FDA allow you to use it (kinda like getting a TUE for TRT from the NSAC). My mother has to order it from a Canadian pharmacy, and the pill comes from places like Turkey. It has been an absolute miracle drug for my mother. She watches her diet (no salt, virtually no alcohol) and this pill keeps her regular. She is deathly afraid of doing the surgery, as she's already lost hearing in one ear.If you haven't read this website, I'd suggest it:http://www.menieres.org/martin.htmThis is a testimonial from a Serc user with Meniere's Disease.Dana, if you, or anyone else, hasn't had a talk with a doctor about "Serc", I'd strongly suggest it. And if the doctor doesn't know what it is, or is willing to find out, Dr. Michael Seidman at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI can help you out. He's the one that got my Mom on Serc, and I couldn't be more grateful to him for it.Hope I've been of some help!~Roger
