The tweet caused some over reaction on the Internet, but Pettis related to MMJunkie that it was a reference to existing injuries, and not something new.

"Same injury," Pettis said. "Taking way longer than expected to recover."

Lightweight contender Anthony Pettis sprained his shoulder while training, but the injury will not prevent a potential showdown with Donald Cerrone, a source close to the fighter told on Tuesday.

According to the source, Pettis will miss a few training session but expects to return to action by January.

Pettis’ trainer Duke Roufus told in August that Pettis competed with a ‘serious shoulder’ injury in each of his two most recent fights. Team Pettis has not yet revealed which shoulder the fighter injured.

Shoulder problems have however apparently scrapped hopes to get a coaching slot on TUF that has now been taken by Jon Jones and Chael Sonnen.

"Still recovering from shoulder surgery," Pettis told, "and it's taking longer than expected. I was hoping to get 'The Ultimate Fighter' gig because I was told it was me and Cerrone coaching, and now it's not happening. I'm just frustrated with everything, man."

Pettis hopes to fight in January.

Sources from inside Pettis’ camp however confirmed that the former WEC champion has suffered no new injury and is instead still rehabbing from shoulder surgery that’s kept him out for the majority of 2012.

Once you injure your shoulder bad enough, it'll never be the same.

I think it was happening in January even before this. Look at UFC's schedule for December. It's pretty much booked for viable options. It was going to require an injury to cancel a key fight to open up a spot.

Why?It's his opinion. You believe he is not ducking. Just because you disagree with him does not mean you call on everyone to vote him down and call him a name. Personally attacking someone by calling them a name while adding nothing of benefit to the discussion merits being voted down more than his offense of uttering that someone ducked. I agree with you that he is wrong and Pettis is not ducking anyone. I just think it's more mature to disagree respectfully than this bullshit of calling for others to vote him down because YOU didn't like it.
