Cerrone: UFC extreme-sports restrictions 'suck'

by Steven Marrocco and John Morgan | source: mmajunkie

The Professional Bull Riders tour finals hit Las Vegas this week, giving Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone an opportuntity to discuss the UFC prohibition on unsafe activities.

"That would be some serious s---," he said. "It's the opportunity of a lifetime to get on one of those bulls. The answer is 100% no, I'm sure, but it doesn't hurt to ask, you know?"

The answer was already no, in fact. Cerrone's request hadn't hung in the air for more than a second before a chorus of PR officials from the tour and UFC shot it down. "Bad idea," they said, in so many words.

"I think we should be able to live our life how we want to live it," responded Cerrone. "On their side (it's), 'We have a fight scheduled.' And I understand that we shouldn't be doing those things because we obligate ourselves to fighting and we've got to show up on the day that we're going to be there."

lets be honest, fighters get injured enough from training, doing extreme sports just exacerbates the risk of a serious injury which prevents more fights happeningall i have to say is that professional fighting is a 10-15 year career (if you're lucky ..), ride the glory of your career, then do whatever you want once you're retired in MMA

Man that sucks, but like someone already mentioned this is a common practice in pro sports. I think a fighters union is approaching in the not to distant future. If you're gonna dictate this much a persons life they are gonna want to be greatly compensated.(talking %s of income like w/ other sports). Really hate it for Cowboy.Seemed like his main reason for fighting pro is for the lump sum pay and free time, which together allowed him to partake in exciting (now banned)outdoor activities.

Sounds like there is confusion....we need to know the reality.   Is it only when a bout aggreement is signed, or year round?   I will start a thread and ask the BaldFather

I don't recall reading that it was only when the fighters had a scheduled bout. I thought it applied year round. I hope it is the case that they can do whatever they want outside of a scheduled fight.
