Overeem: Velasquez will beat JDS

source: mmainterviews

Spencer Lazara from MMAInterviews.tv caught up with Alistair Overeem at the Mr. Olympia show in Las Vegas, and talked fighting Jon Jones somewhere in the future ("I'm definitely looking forward to fighting Jon Jones") and fighting the winner of Junior Dos Santos vs. Cain Velasquez in the near future.

"I lke Cain," said Overeem. "I'm going to fight whoever the UFC puts in front of me."

"I think Cain is going to do good in this next fight… I think he is going to get the belt. I thought so the first time, but then he lost the belt. But this time could be different. So I'll not be fighting Dos Santos for the belt, I'll be fighting Cain."

IMO he's only saying this is because JDS has been trash-talking him. I don't think he'd pick Cain otherwise.I very much disagree...iron-chinned strikers with KO power are Overeem's worst possible matchup IMO. And Junior has speed on top of that.Overeem will eat up most grapplers, with his TDD and power. And while Cain is a dangerous foe for Overeem, because Cain is great, I don't think he represents the threat that JDS does. Cain does not have the chin/defense to eat power shots from Overeem.Overeem can KO Cain with a punch. Whereas, I'd think he'd need a flush Uberknee, or an absolute perfectly placed punch to KO JDS. JDS has a much better chin and is better and moving out of the way of strikes than Cain is.If I were an Overeem fan I'd much rather him fight Cain than JDS.Although while I am an Overeem fan, I hope JDS wins because Overeem-JDS is the better and more exciting matchup. Also I don't think Cain deserved such a quick rematch anyway.

Overeem's chin is suspect, as he was k.o.ed 6 times in the past.He also tapped to punches. His fight against Ricardo Arona springs to mind, when he had a body triangle and tapped to some really soft punches. He also was being outstruck by Werdum in his last fight. So, with his résumé, he should really be hoping Cain wins his next fight...

It wouldn't be in the Reems favor to have Cain win as that would set up an immediate rematch.
