Griffin turned down Belfort as UFC 155 opponent

While everyone knows Phil Davis vs. Forrest Griffin wasn't the first option for UFC 155, it turns out the bout wasn't the second option either.

That's according to recent UFC Light Heavyweight title challenger Vitor Belfort, who tells the Brazilian site UOL that Griffin turned down a bout against him after Chael Sonnen pulled out of their originally scheduled UFC 155 fight to coach against Jon Jones for The Ultimate Fighter season 17.

"I met with Forrest and he told me that he volunteered for a list of six names and mine was the first. He said he would face any of them except me. It's good to have this kind of recognition. I am here to serve the company."

Fight doesn't make any sense anyway. Wasn't Vitor fighting Jones at 205 a one time thing, and then back down to 185?

A chinny guy should never be eager to fight someone like Vitor. There are guys a lot easier to beat and a lot less of a threat to KO you, if we're not concerned with rankings or megafights.

They trained for years together, I really doubt forrest wants to fight a friend in Vitor over someone he doesn't know in Phil Davis. Plus Phil is higher up in the 205lb weight class.

He's not getting submitted by Phil. Forrest has very legit bjj. Pretty good chance he gets violently KO'd by Vitor tho
