Overeem returns vs. Bigfoot Silva on Superbowl Weekend

source: ufc.com

Alistair Overeem was preparing for a title fight with UFC heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos at UFC 146 when he was hit with a surprise drug test administered by the NSAC, which he failed. He was suspended, and can apply for a license December 27, 2012.

UFC president Dana White has made reference to Overeem getting a title shot his first fight back. However, Overeem has said publicly that he is a fighter and wants to fight, regardless of whether it is a title shot or not.

Now word comes from UFC.com that Overeem has his fight:

Top-ten ranked heavyweight contenders will collide as Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva and Alistair “The Reem” Overeem have verbally agreed to fight at UFC 156.

The bout, expected to take place Super Bowl weekend in Las Vegas, has been scheduled pending licensing approval of Overeem by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. That decision will be finalized in early 2013.

In addition to Bigfoot vs. Reem, UFC 156 also boasts Jose Aldo vs. Frankie Edgar for the featherweight title, Rashad Evan vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, and Dan Henderson vs. Lyoto Machida.

I don't like Overeem too much, but have to agree with the general concept of this post.

How can you say his chin has not gotten better when he takes a flush head kick and stays standing? All the talk of him having a weak chin goes back a long time to when he was cutting a bunch of weight, he's added pretty much 30 pounds of muscle since then and all those fights are irrelevant. Regardless of what some idiots on message boards think about OVereem having a "glass" jaw or whatever nonsense they spit out, I can't wait to see how he does at the highest level of the Heavyweight division

I don't care who he fights, I just want to see Overeem's unleash his destruction machine again.Although....I dunno, I like Bigfoot and I don't want to see him get hurt badly, which is no doubt his fate in this match :(

His chin has not got better, and you will soon enough find out. Last time he fought a decent striker in MMA he got knocked out.Yes i know he submitted Hunt because he knew Hunt could well anr truly KO him, JDS is going to maul him.

So having to worry about takedowns is going to make his chin weaker? Most of those fights that you posted are from close to a decade ago, I'd say looking at the fight within 3 years holds a lot more relevance when judging the strength of his chin
