White: 'I had a little beef with the Palms'

First the UFC quietly moved the TUF Finale from its traditional home at The Palms Casino Resort to Las Vegas' Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.

Then rumors arose that it happened because the Palms had halved White's credit limit.

This was followed by a piece in the Las Vegas Review Journal that touched on White hyper generous spending and tipping habits.

One of the Palms' biggest gamblers since it opened 11 years ago, White's tipping habits were legendary.

"He changed people's lives," said one of the sources.

Dealers and wait staff were among the hardest hit by White's departure. During one two-month hot streak, White tipped dealers more than $100,000, sources confirmed.

"Anytime he came in, we knew it was a big payday," a Palms employee said.

A regular at N9NE Steakhouse, White routinely ran up dinner tabs of $15,000-$20,000 and tossed in $10,000 tips. That happened three or four or times a week, the sources said.

"He rarely accepted comps, not just at the Palms but all over Vegas," one source said.

This lead to head scratching about why a casino would cut the credit limit on a big spender?

UGer CindyO asked White what was behind the story, and it turns out the credit limit was imposed not for losing too much, but for winning too big.

I asked DW what happened and he said it was because he kicked their asses by winning BIG a few times within a short period of time so they chopped his limit (he's aggressive in his bets) in half. This isn't the first casino that has done this to him and I doubt it'll be the last.

Now comes word from White himself, via MMAJunkie.com.

"I had a little beef with the Palms, and I ripped the UFC out of there," said White with a chuckle.

Geez I can't believe the shit that comes out of Dana's mouth. Convenient that he knows there's only going to be his side to the story. I was winning to much haha!!

Oh I understand casinos do invite in a small amount of so called high rollers and comp them shit to create the illusion that winning is possible. But is that "kicking ass" or is it simply being gifted a certain number of handicaps?

Not true if you can negotiate to play with certain modifications to the game, like huge bet limits and limited decks. In trying to lure in big players the house will give up parts of it's edge.

Sorry not to be rude but you think they don't know this? It's more likely that the reason Dana gave simply isn't true and he made it up to save face.  "Oh yeah, I kicked their asses blah blah."  Sounds like something a teenager tells his buddies later after he gets punked out by someone. Some people are so deluded, they think there's such a thing as a good gambler.  It's all luck and it's all stacked in the casino's favour.  The house always wins, that's how they're still in business.

I was thinking about this... If he was playing blackjack it would make sense, if the deck's hot the player will raise his bets a lot, and if he's a good enough player and the limit is high enough he can get an edge. If it's possible to count the minimum and maximum are a big deal.

I'm told that the name will be changed to the Qualms in order to really rub it in.

Blue names, a little help if you will. I think this should be the cover to this story:

You could be right, but I sincerely doubt that he's employing the martingale strategy unless his maximum table limits were removed or are very high for some reason. I know that casinos will raise maximum table limits for high rollers, but I would think that the casino would notice if one of their high rollers was using martingale and not grant them that permission.I'm thinking that what one of the previous owners said is more likely. The Palms new backers (TPG Capital, Leonard Green) probably either put a dumbass in charge over there, or a mandate to cut down their financial exposure or operating costs. Hence, we get whale's credit lines cut down. It seems pretty retarded to me, as the casino will eventually recuperate at least most of it's money from the whale, and most likely all his money too.

He does the martingale strategy which is why they put a limit on how much he can bet

If he likes BlackJack, I'm sure he knows some basic counting methods. That doesn't mean he always employs them, or even employs them properly.Counting cards only increases your odds of winning to about 51-52% unless working in teams or being able to jump in mid deck with a favorable count. Statistically, you will most likely have to work thousands upon thousands of hands to finally realize your advantage and gain any sort of traction against the casino.
