Rogan explains fat ref and Lance Bass comments

source: justingiefer

During the Tom Lawlor vs. Francis Carmont fight at UFC 154 on Saturday night, UFC announcer Joe Rogan turned to his esteemed colleague Mike Goldberg and said "I got a question for you - how fat can you be and still be a referee?"

This is the referee in question:

During the lead in to Johny Hendricks vs. Martin Kampmann, Rogan quipped "Martin Kampmann comes from behind more often than Lance Bass."

This is Lance Bass, showing off his wrist tatto.

The Kanji reads "Jiu-Jits."

Several male grandmothers on the Internet got up in arms over the remarks, to the point that Rogan addressed them on a recent Joe Rogan Experience podcast.

what about that twiglet female ref - Kim whatsherface? I cant see her jumping in to stop anything. (I was going to write pull a fighter off but that just sounded wrong)

The comment about Lance Bass was hilarious, but the comment about the ref wasn't cool IMO.

One of the reasons I like Joe Rogan is he genuinely tries to better himself every day as a man. I also think he has a good moral character.Whether or not I think the fat joke was crude, I definitely believe 100% Joe intention was NOT to hurt the ref's feelings or embarrass the ref on national television. No one is perfect. Not Joe, not the ref, and not us on our couch as ufc fans. Take things in broader context and give people the benefit of the doubt imo.

I'm a Joe Rogan fan, but I thought calling out the ref like that wasn't his finest momentBeing fat doesn't necessarily mean you're not capable of doing your job properly. Look at Tank Abbott and Roy Nelson for example.

Good question , i haven't. Fat , skilled ref > Super athlete , shitty ref.

I just have one, serious question... Has there ever been an instance in MMA where an "unfit" ref couldn't stop the action in time to prevent some kind of serious injury?

I don't think anyone in this thread has stated that they where offended by the joke , more of a discussion if it was the best forum to bring them up in. Which by the way Rogan apologized for. The funny part about this thread is the closet dudes who are offended by , what they believe is people offended who really are just discussing whether it was a good thing for the sport or not. "People who are offended by gays are either stupid , or afraid of cocks being delicious" -Joe Rogan
