White: Union in MMA? I doubt it

source: espn.go.com

UFC President Dana White appeared recently on an ESPN chat, and covered a wide variety of topics, including the possibility of a union in MMA.

Q: When will we see a fighters union in the UFC?

Dana White: I doubt it. The thing about fighting is, fighting is not a team sport, it's an individual sport. It's going to be tough to see a day with Silva or GSP is giving up big chunks of their money to guys who won't make two fights in the UFC. Different sports. But if it happens, it happens. I have to negotiate with somebody on the fight contracts.

Come to Quebec and see how great unions are.  It seems like, on any given day in Montreal, there's a union somewhere striking or picketing over their pay.  They expect their pay to outpace inflation in any given year. The self-entitlement is so bad that there was an article in a widely circulated newspaper actually praising a certain public sector labour union for agreeing to increase their pention contributions from something like 30 to 45% because such concessions are so rare.  Imagine that!  Actually paying for your own retirement!   When entitlement infects a culture, no matter how much people have it's not enough.  I'm sure some of you read about the student strike Montreal just had.  Well the government gave in to their demands and didn't raise university tuition. This week they went back to the streets.  Now they want it to be completely and totally "free"!  As if anything in this life can be free. It never ends.  I comend my Ameribros for keeping it at bay for so long.   Once government reaches a certain level of central planning, the country collapses.  In Canada, our nationalized businesses are called Crown Corporations.  One of them is called ViaRail.  It was founded in 1978.  Not once, in any fiscal quarter since its inception, has it EVER made a profit.  It has lost money every year for decades.  That's how government works. Enjoy.

Do you think it would be easier for upstarts to get going with a union to deal with? A union would likely make it so only the ufc could continue to operate. Which is why I think at this point in the sports growth it would not be a good thing. Obviously with the fighter summits, implementing the health coverage during training the ufc is trying to protect its fighters without the need for unions.

Dana telling fighters they don't need managers, Lol sure. Of course Zuffa doesn't want a union, same reason the Fertittas aren't going to let their casinos unionize

Well not really my point lol. But the competition isn't there. Tried, failed, rinse, wash, repeat. (At least the ones that always try to compete with the UFC on their first show)

You mentioned SAG.  SAG has crushed an industry?  LOL again.  Again, you cannot be serious.  MLBPA, NFLPA--have they crushed an industry?  LOL.  The growth and success of both leagues is mind boggling.  NHLPA--despite everyone predicting doom and gloom, returns after each stoppage incredibly successful.

"SAG is a failure? You surely cannot be close to serious."Did I say SAG is a failure? Most unions don't fail, try reading comments before you respond to them? They do very well at sustaining themselves while they crush industry. And SAG, like every other union in California, is an anchor around California's neck. That's why they outsource productions to other states and other countries. That's why buffoons like the idiot Michael Moore don't use union labor. That's why right-to-work states and non-union industry/business are so much more successful, while cities are declaring bankruptcy left and right in states like California. That's why our private schools are the best in the world at half the cost of our government-schools which are the laughing stock of the modern world. Go to Detroit and look at all the good unions did there. The once thriving hub of America's industrial might, reduced to a 3rd world uninhabited wasteland.Zuffa is doing great without union thugs moving in and ripping everything down for their own gains.

Daner white has so much testosterone, these fighters would get crushed trying to go against Dana White and the Fertitta's. They are the real tough guys, the fighters are tough guys, but the REAL tough guys are the guys that own the fighters' contracts. I look up to Dana white because he controls the fighters and tells them what to do. Dana makes friends fight it is awesome. He will make Rory beat up Georgy inside of 1 round because money talks and gsp thinks he can say we are friends... didn't work for tito and wont work for georgy. vacate your title if you are such a friend right? let rory make some money as you make tens of millions and rory makes 40 K to show... a fighters career is too short THERE ARE NO FRIENDS that is bs...Rory is the talent
