Dana White: Anderson Silva wants 10-fight contact

source: mmamania

MetroPCS sponsored a 30-minute live chat this weekend (see replay below) with UFC President Dana White. The discussion covered a wide variety of topics, including contract negotiations with UFC Middleweight champion Anderson Silva.

The 37 year old has two fights left on his current contract, and one would expect the negotiations to center on a standard four fight contract. As it turns out, White proposed an eight-fight contract that would presumably be career spanning.

According to White, Silva's response can be summed up in two words - "F--- that." Silva rejected the eight fight deal, and instead said "I want a 10-fight deal."

Silva has been mercurial on the subject of retirement saying variously he wants to quit MMA and switch to boxing, wants to be retired by 35, wants to fight for ten more years. and only has a handful of fights left, so wants to make them great.

Randy Couture retired at 47, and took a great deal more punishment than has Anderson Silva, who has never been knocked out. Thus the idea is not necessarily a contract negotiating posture.

The ten fight contract is even more plausible. With two or three fights per year, that would put Silva at age 40 or so, any many tens of millions of dollars richer.

What do you think? How much longer does Anderson Silva have?

He's not fighting 10 more times. Anyone has the option to retire whenever they want. He's likely just negotiating a high base rate and ppv % so that no matter how long he fights he always has a certain amount of guaranteed money built in.

A bulked up and much improved Rory against an over-the-hill 41/42 year old Silva?  Honestly I could see either man winning.  Now, not so much.

It's going to be funny to see Dana's reaction when Anderson starts losing...and he will.

lol and you know all this because? He's 23 years old and is already considered one of the best WWs on the planet, why is him getting a title shot at MW in the future inconceivable?
