Henderson vs. Melendez, Cormier vs. Mir official for UFC on FOX 7

source: ufc.com

"Two of the biggest names in Strikeforce history will make their move to the UFC on Saturday, April 20, with FOX airing both bouts live from San Jose.

In the main event, UFC lightweight boss "Smooth" Benson Henderson will defend his belt for the third time when he takes on Strikeforce's last 155-pound titlist, Gilbert "El Nino" Melendez, in a clash of champions the entire MMA world has been waiting for.

Plus, Daniel Cormier, the Strikeforce Grand Prix heavyweight tournament winner, will return to action quickly after his win over Dion Staring last Saturday to battle two-time heavyweight champ Frank Mir in a long-anticipated showdown."

Melendez vs Benson is stylistically a fantastic fight.

I don't think the UFC ever had any intention of granting Alvarez a title shot straight away, despite that being reported as their intention. Alvarez gets wrecked by a LOT of people in the UFC.

Is this the title shot the UFC planned on giving to Alvarez? Because if it is, then Bjorn fucked him out of a ton of money!!! Imagine if he won the UFC title by KO on FOX. His worth would sky rocket. And his next fight would probably be Melledez on PPV with a pretty nice buy rate. I haven't been fond of Bellator for a while now because I think the tourney structure is silly. And the fighters are all a level down. But this last stunt puts it over the top. I will NEVER support Bellator no matter what they do. I NEVER stream PPVs out of respect to the company and fighters, but if Bellator puts one on it'll be my first since (well, I've had money).

The problems I see with those suggestions are that Barnett isn't (and may never be) in the UFC and Cromier is no where near 205 at this point in his career
