No more women booked till after UFC 157

by Steven Rondina | source: bleacherreport.com

Dana White, Nick Diaz and Georges St-Pierre are currently in Montreal hyping UFC 158. While no video is up yet, Mike Bohn from MMAMania.com posted a critical note from the festivities on Twitter:

White said that another female fight won't be booked in the UFC until after Ronda Rousey vs. Liz Carmouche at UFC 157.

That is big news for a few reasons.

While Ronda Rousey is the only woman booked for a fight, she is not the only woman employed by the UFC. Miesha Tate announced the same day as Rousey that she was now a part of the UFC. This has led many fans to wonder if White was waiting to see how UFC 157 panned out before booking any other fights.

Those rumblings seem to be true.

Cat Zingano. That's who should be signed...her against Misha Tate would be legit.

Miesha Tate better be rooting for Ronda in this fight like her career depends on it.Because it probably does.

So why is there a TUF final as a main event now instead of an epic fight between two of the greatest in the sport, Hendo and Machida.   Sorry dude but its all just hype. I did watch some Invicta last time around. I was not really into female MMA because i do believe that there less athletes(my objective reason) and i just hate watching woman with the face beaten to a pulp (my subjective and perhaps not wholly reasonable justification). While i did enjoy it somewhat it just not garner the same type of attention as male MMA.   So if they want to put some woman fights on the undercard and work there way up unto the main card when the level of the competition rises, fine. But dont go spoil a great fight with a female MMA fight, where you do not even have the decency to make a matchup that even makes a little sense.   Its not woman MMA Zuffa is promoting. Its the Rhonda Roussey show. And honestly,if a organisation shows so much bias in favour of one fighter from the beginning it is very hard for me to imagine them staying wholly impartial to her performances. Hence they serve up,out of a rather shallow talent pool already,a fun scrappy but wholly unqualified opponent for her first fight. How  does this benefit MMA as something to be taken seriously or Rhonda as a legit champion.

"Women's tennis."   Women's tennis is only watched because the men's serves are so fast they often can't be returned.  If something like this applied to basketball then WNBA teams wouldn't lose money every single year and only survive on welfare from the NBA. The question is, does wmma have it's own version of this.

I will agree though that Ronda Rousey and Liz Carmouche should not be in a main event with Hendo and Machida on the card. This is where the UFC shit the bed on this one, robbing us of a 5-round fight between two of the best fighters in the world.

I like to watch fights.Women fight. Therefore I like to watch women fight.Women's tennis. Also, worldstarhiphop.com makes a killing off of posting videos of people with zero skill fighting it out. The ladies deserve their chance to scrap. I believe that at least half of this vitriol has to do with it being women at the center of the debate, and less about their "skill level".

I agree 100% I'm actually hoping either Dan or Machida pull out of the card so dana can't use their numbers to artificially inflate the "success" of rousey on ppv

you didnt see invicta did you? watching WMMA isnt much different than when they put the TUF finale on a ppv. sure they might not all be gsp/anderson level talents, but they def have legit skills and put on exciting fights. lots of people seem to be missing out on good fights for stupid reasons.

Sadly I feel like him as well. I'm also totally for equal rights for men and women, I am the least sexist guy out there. I love and respect women. Also Ronda is goddam annoying
