Florian: Silva avoiding Weidman because he's a bad match up

37 year-old UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva is looking for a few big fights before he retires.

#1 contender Chris Weidman recently sat down with UFC president Dana White and made the case.

“I want to fight Anderson Silva," said Wiedman. "I’m going to beat him. I’m going to be the next world champion.”

However, Silva manager Ed Soares has other plans.

"We want to fight someone that has as big of a name as possible and that's on a winning record or a winning run right now," said Soares. "So, I mean right now it seems like most of the guys with names have had losses very recently. So, when I think about it, like the only thing that comes to mind and I don't even know if that would be a possible fight is, you know, like Cung Le."

White responded to the idea bluntly.

“This is typical Anderson Silva, Ed Soares craziness,” said White. “Every f---ing time there’s a fight, he wants to fight ‘Mighty Mouse’ Johnson. Then he wants to fight this guy and that guy. It’s always the same deal."

Kenny Florian appeared recently on UFC Tonight, and said emphatically that Silva should fight Weidman.

"This is my problem, I give Anderson Silva a pass for pretty much anything," said Florian. "But when he starts calling out guys like Luke Rockhold and Cung Le and you're saying you want big name fighters, those guys are maybe at the same level as far as name recognition.

"I believe Chris Weidman is just a bad style matchup for Anderson Silva and that's why he's being avoided. If you're calling out those guys, you better include Chris Weidman."

Weidman certainly agrees with Florian. Do you?

Shut the fuck up about Weidman. Seriously so sick of hearing about this dude. Who has he beat?Honestly i think Hector runs through him, and Hasad does the same if he ends up dropping down...in fact i think Ed Herman would give him a tough fight.

Sorry for the double post but when has Silva ever NOT fought someone??? Name ANYONE? And as far as having better sport bjj... that irrelevant in MMA, and an unknown since silva doesn't compete in sport BJJ. Vinny Mag tooled Weidman but I don't think he would beat Weidman in MMA even if he could take him down, and vinny is my favorite 205er.

I like Kenny.. but come on. GSP has the same luxury and I don't see Kenny calling out his training partner/buddy GSP.Silva always does this. He says he won't fight, then fights them. Also, he's using it as leverage before resigning his contract. He's apparently about to sign a 10 fight contract, the biggest ever. Why would he just do whatever the UFC wanted when they need him way more than he needs them.

Could not agree more Kenny. I think Weidman beats Silva. I said it along time ago. Silva wont fight him. Chris has more reach, a great wrestler, and not only that, his jiu jitsu is far beyond Silvas(If you look at sport jiu jitsu, chris would crush silva. Chris will win via domination on the ground. You heard it here first! :)

Agreed. People still act as though Anderson Silva needs to prove himself to them, as if they have any relevance with his credibility.

The Anderson haters are funny.  I just looked back and there was an article from late 2011 with the headline "Should Anderson be stripped of UFC Title for "Ducking" Sonnen?"  I love how there's been so much talk of him ducking Sonnen, people say he was ducking Vitor, people said he was ducking Okami because of what Sonnen did the first time and how he would control him.  Then Hendo wants a rematch and he's ducking him, Vitor wants a rematch so he's ducking him, now he's ducking Weidman.  It's like you idiots think if he doesn't fight everyone that calls him out it's ducking. Tell you what...I've never had a pro fight but I would like to headline a UFC event, make a bunch of money, and I'm calling out Anderson.  I guess if he doesn't immediately accept he's ducking me.
