Randy Couture: Matt Hughes job a big f@$% you from Dana White

UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture recently appeared on SiriusXM Fight Club, and discussed his estrangement from the organization

"I gave the UFC and Dana every opportunity to find a way to significantly use me since I retired a year and a half ago," said Couture. "They acted like they were doing me a favor by giving me the four events on FOX a year as a commentator. In my opinion and estimation, not a terribly significant role in the organization, and the company of Zuffa.

"So I tried like hell to get them to keep me with the company in some significant way and they had nothing for me. I made them aware that this offer had come onto the table, that the TV thing was heating up for me, that there were significant offers being pushed to me, but I had to sign a non-disclosure agreement to even hear those pitches and could not tell them specifically what was going on or who was offering what.

"So, you know, in my professional estimation, they had an opportunity to keep me and use me. They chose not to, and a week later, after this whole thing leaks, they give a job to Matt Hughes in a significant fashion. Frankly that was a big f@#% you to me from Dana. And that's exactly what he intended to do."

"That's the way it felt to me. I've been trying for over a year to get them to use me in some way, shape or form, and they chose not to. They didn't have anything for me. They continually told me that. And then Matt announces his retirement, and within a week has a Vice President position for fighter relations.

"You tell me."

What do you think UG?

Was the VP position for Hughes a doubtless long planned reward for a career of extraordinary loyalty and success like that bestowed upon Chuck Liddell? Or was it a snap decision to slap Randy Couture? Or was it long planned, but the timing was designed to insult?

Good Lord. Nothing was a lie about that but that's NOT what he said. That's what he SHOULD have said because then he wouldn't have been lying! Randy didn't HAVE to lie so as NOT to violate his NDA with Spike/Bellator. He just chose to because that seems to be his go-to move. Hex, I like you so lets not discuss this anymore. We won't see eye to eye (or maybe not even in the same ball park), OK? Enjoy your weekend.   Cindy

So what about that is a lie? Was he obligated to reveal future plans to Dana and Zuffa?

Sycophantic behavior, if I ever did see it.

Cindy doesn't work for UFC. She just sets up meet and greets with Dana. GTFO with this shill nonsense.

CindyO you act like you are perfect. Have you ever told a lie? Have you ever done anything you regret? Randy is an icon of the sport. He has helped the sport more than any figher ever other than Royce Gracie. Jesus Christ show some fucking respect.

Nope.   Cindy

Nope. What he should have done was told DW, "I'm under no obligation to discuss or reveal anything to you or Zuffa regarding any future plans I may have." Its not rocket science but for some, the lies just flow from their lips and fingertips- they just can't help it... like Randy.   Cindy

And if that's how Dana felt and why Dana didn't give Randy a decent job, he doesn't have a right to get butthurt when Randy goes elsewhere.

Who cares honestly. Be a fan of Randy, don't be a fan of Randy. As far as the UFC giving him a high ranking position with the company, why should they? When you give someone a position of importance it is damn near like a marrage. You need someone that is loyal, that you can trust, and that will not run at the first sign of something better. Randy has shown that he is not that kind of guy in personal, or in business so why would they give him a position of importance like that? Randy will always be a legend in the UFC cage, and nothing will change that. This is just a completely different issue.
